due to my past cardiac history ( stent inserted for a heart attack new years eve 2001 ) i go every year for a nuclear stress test. last week i went for the test and the doctor leaves a messagae on my machine friday and tells me he wants to discuss the test. well in the past it was the office staff that called and said the test was negative, but this time around i was concerned. i wait the entire weekend to find out my doc is on vacation, so another doc from the practice urges me to get a ct heart scan.

i had the ct scan this afternoon and about an hour ago the doc reading the scan called me to say things were ok, just some minor to moderate plaque/calcium build up at the entry of the stent.

now i can break out the party hats for another year :D

off to burger king i go!

I had a similar test done about 12 years ago. They called and asked me to come back for another stress test because they said that my heart moved ??

The said that when they stress the heart on a treadmill, some peoples heart moves upwards which gives them a faulty image. The second time they used an injection to stress my heart instead of the treadmill. (you actually get just as tired as if you were on a treadmill, but it does it in about a minute.

Anyway, the test showed a very small restriction in a minor blood vessel on the back side of my heart. The doctor recommended more excercise, watch my diet, and take a combination of one asprin, Co-Q10, Vitamin E & C, an Omega-3 capsules. I'll probably never know if that is working until I keel over one day and they can determine the cause of death. If I die in a car or plane crash, it won't mean much...

thanks everyone. i have some other health issues, but this one is always on my mind as i have a terrible family history of heart disease.

jeff c, the test costs $1,200. / most insurance companies are not paying at this time, but i think i am going to get lucky as the doc wrote it as a needed medical necessisty.

just from my experience, i urge everyone to get checked and keep an eye on your bloodwork

A few years ago, I HAD to go to the hospital with chest pains (I was a paramedic for 9 years and I knew I needed to finally go). Got there, they gave me a nitro and the pain went away, but kept me overnight just to make sure. Had fun, though, as I got up the next morning and walked over to where the nurse was monitoring all the wireless telemetry. I took my finger and started tapping on one of the pads (where the electrode was attached) and watched the monitor go into V-Fib! I thought the nurse was going to sh*t her britches! Then she turned around an saw me. I guess they got even, because later, they did a stress test on me and kept me on the tread mill for about 20 minutes (and they got me up to a 7 degree incline)! Never had another problem since then!
