Has anyone tried to paint their Tonneau Cover ??

Can it be done ??

Does it require special paint ??

I'd like to paint it to match the Trac but not if it's going to peel or checkle in six months.

Thanks,

Pete

It may be possible to paint the tonneau cover, but it would require special paint that will adhere to the plastic. Regular paint will just flake off.

I know that DupliColor makes a paint especially for plastics (in a spray can). Someone here tested paint on plastic (not the tonneau) and it worked very well.

The difficult part of painting the tonneau is the prep work. Because the tonneau cover has a textured finish it will be very difficult to get the cover clean enough to apply the paint and have it stick everywhere. Also, the textured surface of the tonneau alone may leave the painted surface blotchy so it may stick but it may just look bad when it's done.

Some folks here had their plastic bumpers and side moldings painted to match their truck color and it seemed to work just fine. After they got the textured plastic surfaces spotlessly clean, they added an adhisive promoter to the standard auto paint and sprayed it on. Several coats seem to fill in all the nooks and crannies and the paint and shine match well with the body color...so it is doable if you have the patience and the skill.
