I found a 2001 Jeep Cherokee that's got too many extra's and mods to list so here's a link to the ad for it. Thinking about trading my Show Truck for it and he's gonna add a couple hundred bucks to the deal. The stereo in the rear will most likel come out since my Wife with drive it daily so I can have the Trac back and get back to working. Any good or bad thoughts, suggestions, etc. will be greatly appreciated . I'm not familair with Jeeps too much other than some basics. Thanks in advance for any advice, warnings, etc.

Be sure to check the frame in the area of the steering gear. My bud just junked one because the frame was just about broken in two at the gear. Not a rust issue either, stress.

looks great. I love Jeeps. But I find it hard to believe he really changed his coolant and rear end fluid every 3k miles. maybe its a typo on his part? nice truck though, very dependable. I am guessing this is their V6 model unless I missed it. 4.0L if I am not mistaken. Good motors. My father's 97 has 210k miles on it now and runs like it just came off the line. and its been through hell. Parts are cheap, easy to come by. The only warning I will share is that Jeeps LOVEEEE to eat gas. find out what transmission is in it. Some are 4wheel all the time.

Thanks, I'll be sure to check out the undercarraige and frame. He said when he bought it he built it up for shows only, no offroad use ever. The guy builds custom speaker enclosures and details vehicles for a living. Any other pros and cons. The more info good or bad will greatly save me from making a mistake or help me get a good daily driver for my wife. Thanks.

I have a 99 Cherokee with 130,000 miles and it runs as strong as ever. That's a sweet inline 6 on those trucks - lots of power; more than my ST for sure. The backseat is not very comfortable, though.

A few points. The 4.0 is a very good engine but they are known for valve issues with that kind of mileage. Being that it is a 4x4 have the front end checked out by a pro. WIth that kind of mileage the upper and lower control arm bushings are probably in need of replacing if original and also have a close look at where the front trac bar mounts to the frame, it's a known weak point and the mounting point will crack...it casues what we call "deathe wobble" it's perfectly fine one minute and then all hell breaks loose.

Typical problems with that mileage would be rear main seal leakiage and transfer case leakage. If the guy is a detailer these issues may have been "cleaned up" let the vehicle run for as long as you can get away with and give it a good long test drive and then check for these issues.

Another point to consider...

Chrysler/jeep vehicles, in my opinion, experience, and from what I have been told by a mopar mechanic (and zealot...so his opinion should be favorable) are such that one seems to never get even close to the EPA gas mileage ratings.

We have a 2007 Pacifica which never seems to average much over 16mpg. Yeah, it might be the way we drive it, and it is the beefiest engine with AWD, but c'mon.

My mechanic friend says that Chrysler has since day one deliberately engineered their cars to suck gas. He said, and I quote, "they have always tended to make heavier cars and cars that run on more gas for each mile driven than the competition; and it goes back to their muscle days and earlier." Now, I don't know much about that, but I do know that good gas mileage and Chrysler seem to be at odds.

make sure the ignition turns SMOOTH,,,, I've had to replace many because of bad wafers. Make him give you 2 keys............. or credit for a second key. (Y-160PT transponder)

Maintenance intervals are a lot lower on my Jeep than I expected. Not a huge deal since I do most of it myself, but diffs are every 30k along with plugs. I'm not sure what they are on that one though just something to look into and consider.

Ok, gonna try and meet up next weekend. Weather killed things this weekend, He's coming from Latrobe, Pa. so he doesn't wanna really have to drive my Show/Drift Truck back in the snow.
