I want to replace my headlights with more powerful ones. What ones are recommended. I am confused by 8000+ HID lights and 4000+ hid lights. Which give you better light? I bet this starts a mini war, but I want opinions!

Sylvania Silverstars work well for me. Walmart has them for just under $40.00 a pair. There is a members project to change the fog lamps over too. Great combination.:)

APC makes a wiring harness for the 9007 headlights. There was a post some time back that showed the significant brightness difference between the OEM & SilverStar bulbs. I think that the proj. that Eldon is referring to is the one on having the headlights on w/ the fog lights. Also, you can get the SilverStars for the fog lights & corner lights.

Roger,

Do you notice a difference with the APC wiring harness on? I know I did, but sometimes we want to see an improvement to justify our money spent.

8000k. Amazingly bright. The higher you go with the temp, the more the color will change. Lower temps like 4300 will be yellowish, 6000k will be super white, 8000k (the legal limit in most states) will be bluish, 10000k will be really blue, and anything higher will be purple.

I have the SilverStars. The headlights make a difference, and I feel the whiter light makes night driving safer.

I changed taillights this weekend, because one of mine burned out. I can't tell the difference between the SilverStar tail lamps and the regular OEM ones (I tested with just one changed, before I put the second one in). I guess it would just look cool if I had Clear lenses, since they look blue when not illuminated, but amber when lit.

I put the 9145 Silverstars in my fog lights because I now have black outs on the headlights (I don't remove the covers at night). They're a HUGE improvement over the factory bulb. I can drive with just the fogs on and it works just fine. I would imagine the headlight bulbs would be the same.

The higher you go in HID color temperature, the less useable light output you will get. Also the higher temp color will go from yellow/white at 4300K to purple/white at 1200K. If going HID I would stay at 6500K or lower.

I had Silverstars in my last several vehicles and like them, but a few months ago Consumer Reports did a headlight test and ranked the new GE Nighthawk lights even better. I haven't used them myself. On the Taurus board (the wife has one), everybody raves about the HD wiring harness.
