What is the easiest way to replace the short coolant hose to the water pump on an 02 Trac? Hose is only 3" long or so, and space between fittings is SMALL, about 3/8" or so on cab side, w/ a curve in the fittings that seems to make it impossible to fit hose, and the clamps to boot.:(

Got myself in trouble on this one Sunday. Wouldn't be the case, but the service dep't. of the only Ford dealer in town is on strike...

Pull the water pump to replace it.

Blame the dealer's owner for that. A good reason could be the dealer is trying to screw the employees over and they had to stand up for themselves.

tom,

oh the poor little worker is being bullied from the boss !

do you know why they are on strike? or are you just assumming?

bring the facts to the empty table.

fire the workers and bring in some real mechanics

Bruce, I have noticed how tight that is. I have had other cars that short of a hose. Sometimes the replacment is to long. What I have done on some is made the hose as short as posible and still get the clamps to seat. I woulad also use a thin layer of grease. When I fold the curved hose. The shortness and the grease would let it slip in place..Good luck..

I had the same problem on FE model Ford big blocks. The 390 & 428 had a short hose between the water pump and the engine block. I had to remove the water pump to replace it. To make sure I never had to do it again, I got a 3 inch piece of steel braided rubber hose to replace the original heater hose. Never had to touch it after that.

I don't know how you did it. I don't remember there being a space even the thickness of a hose between the two pipes.

And do you still have the 406? I don't have the 390 or the 428CJ any more!:(

I think some one told me a while back that they used a zip tie to crush the hose, git it in there, cut the tie, then used worm gear hose clamps...

I think that could work, But haven't looked at it that much..

Dreman, I wish I did. It was a '63 Galaxie XL 500. Heavey car but tons of torque. Late '63 the 427 fe replaced it. Sold it in 1970 when I went in the Army.
