Hi, I was getting some squeekin at the front brakes, so I am g oing to change them today... the rotors need to be turned, but the brake job project that is here is a different kind of brak setup that I have... the rotor is sitting on a spindle in my truck... I have the rotors off, which took removing a pin and a couple bolts, etc... but now I have the rotor off there is a bearing or something inside .... does this have to come out to have them turned? how do I get it off?? It doesnt just slide out..

Help! thanks!

is your trac 2 wheel drive ? if so yes you need to reemove the inner braring, put the rotor back on the spindle, pu the spindle nut back on hand tight and quickly pull the rotor off letting it slide on the spindle this will pop out the inner seal and bearing.

is it 2wd? if so, the seals gotta come out, and the bearing are remove. clean them out and repack the bearings w/ new grease. turn the rotors, and reassemble w/ new seals. to be honest, nowadays, i never turn rotors. not enough meat in them. i always go new. are they scored? if not, i usually just scuff them up a little and put new pads on. the squeaking sound you hear could be just brake dust, too if it is a 4wd, there is a project on the suject w/ pics in the projects section. Yes all bearings need to be removed..dont want to get shavings in them..be shure to replace the rear grease seal..Iam asuming you have a 4x2 ST.....

Yes, its a 4x2

I put the rotors back on, so I just leave it a little loose, and kinda jerk it out, and it should pop off?

I dunno about turning them now, I mean there is VERY minor scoring, like really small, except on the back side of one there is a slight grove, about a mm deep....

Should I just do the pads?

Im kinda pressed for time today, I think I might just do the pads, and then order some nice drilled rotors down the road... I dont want to rush soemthing like this at all :(

TURN THEM....

If you have them off get them turned. The grove is not an issue. It is the warping of the rotor itself. That is what creates pulsations.

Also by turning them your pads will seat properly to the re-newed surface.

If the grooves are no deeper than the thickness of a business card, you don't need to have your rotors turned. If the rotors are warped, they you will need to have them turned on a brake lathe or you are wasting your time and money putting on new pads. If you buy new rotors, you will need to install new bearings, races and grease seals and you should always pur new pads on when you install new rotors.
