OK, again I am off the topic of this site, but.....

What does everybody suggest for gassy/aggitated babies at night? We have tried distilled water with the formula, Beano, soy formula, Mylicon, small amounts of rice cereal, etc. They (I have twin girls- 2 months old but were born 6 weeks early) seem to do pretty well during the day but as soon as night comes- all hell breaks loose. I just bought some Gentle Naturals Tummy Soother to see if that works. Any other suggestions? thanks

I had the same problem with my kids, some years ago, We had a product called Gripe Water. I have no idea if that is available where you live but it does work. The gas is caused because the litle one is laying down after eating. I found too that laying the kids across my lap on their tummy's and gently rubbing their backs would get rid of the gas. The babies like the contact too and so will you. They would fall asleep like that and sleep quietly.

Good luck and Merry Christmas.

Smae thing with both of my children. (4 and 2) Had to have a UGI with Small Bowel Fallow Through done. (I'm a X-ray Technician) Both children had acid reflux and my son (2) had Esinophilic Esophagitis. (allergic reaction in the Esophogus) They treat it with a medicine that helps empty their stomach and Zantac. What happens is during the day they are fine due to being more in the "upright position" (being held). At night they are put in bed in the flat postion causing reflux. Being premature (my daughter was 5 weeks early) GERD is very common. Have them checked for it. It's a easy test to have done and at no harm to the children. Also try putting a pillow under the matress to incline it alittle so they aren't laying flat in their crib. If you have any questions about the tests, e-mail me and I'd be happy to explain them further. ;)

How late do you feed them? Maybe you and your wife should try and get them on a different feeding schedule. Do you burp them after they are fed, I will assume you do. If I remember right (even tho it has been over 3 yrs since I had to worry about it) my wife and I would feed our girls(ages 7 & 4 1/2), burp them and hold them in our laps for a little while to let the food(breast milk or formula) get settled in their little tummies. No I take that back we would feed them for a while, burp them, feed them a little more until they were full, burp them again, and then hold them awhile. You could also just ask your pediatrician what he or she thinks. congrats and good luck!!

My kids did best with Isomil concentrate and bottled water (not distilled) or just get a Brita filter. Distilled water I think can upset your stomach. It's also possible that your twin's digestive systems aren't yet fully developed since they were preemies. Mine were 9 mos. and we didn't start cereal in the formula until about 4 mos.

Welcome to parenthood. This is normal, as is no sleep and no nookie because you're both too tired. It gets better.

My son in particular was good for being collicky, more than once I bundled him in the car at 3:00 am and drove around until he went to sleep, didn't take long.

Did this more in the day, but another thing that worked was to put either kid in their room, close the door, and turn the vacuum cleaner on out in the hallway and just let it run. The white noise in the background would put them to sleep.

Now my son is 16 and bigger than me, and my daughter is almost 13, tall, thin, and blonde, and has boys chasing her already. It's always going to be something.

we would lay our boy on his back and have him do little baby leg lifts ( with help of course)

touch his toes to his nose and sure enough, after a minute or two - *bang!* no more gas pressure. sometimes a good fart is all you need.

Our son was a classic colicky baby for the first three months of his life (almost drove my wife and I nuts). The worst of it was at night like you described. We tried everything we could think of thinking it was gas also but nothing ever worked. In the end what seemed to help to the most was slightly inclining his head and shoulders as others suggested when sleeping (they make special matts for this that you can get at Babies R Us for under $20). For us the other lifesaver was a book several other parents recommended called the "The Happiest Baby on the Block" by Dr. Harvey Karp. This thing was a life saver and has a lot of good tips for dealing with colicky babies.
