I have been looking for a good durable product to coat the front & back bumpers with, along with the sides. After using spray paint numerous times and having it peel off a few weeks after application, I began my search for a tougher product. Of course my mind went to Rhino Lining and Line-X. But the $400 price tag that came with both of those for application quickly deterred me. After more research I found Herculiner on a few websites. The reviews were mixed, some had amazing results and some didn't. I figured I would go for it and the $90 price tag only made the deal sweeter.

After buying it I quickly took it home and started taking apart the trac. After the pieces were off I sanded until I could sand no more. After all, the rougher the surface, the better the adherence. Herculiner is painted on and the application could not be easier. The paint has a very rough texture, giving the feel of complete and thick coverage. The coat dries in 3 hours and then one last coat is applied. The finish look and feel is like Rhino lining but you feel much more satisfied knowing you did it.

I think the Herculiner looks great in the trac. It gives it a rugged and tough look. I hope anyone speculating about this product finds this helpful, I have not seen a post about Herculiner on this website before so maybe this will urge some people to do this to their trac.

(I don't think I uploaded the pictures right, I'm sorry if you have to go to my library to see them... if you do have too its like the last 5 pics)

That is BAD! It would look great on my black Trac. I have been wanting to paint the grey cladding and bumpers, but was worried about the end result. Let us know about durability. Great job!:supercool:

I like the idea and think that it will be the route I go when I finally paint my bumpers. However, I would like to get something thats not so coarse. I like the texture I just don't want so much of it. I bet that it looks better in person anyway. Good job man.

I did this to my Trac many years ago, most of it has all peeled off. It will look great for the first 2-3 years then really faded then start peeling off. I am waiting till this summer to peel all mine off and possibly paint![Broken External Image]:

Only picture I have that is not real close up.

I love the look of it, I like that it makes it a bit more rugged looking. I have my cladding painted gold to match my trac but after hunting trips and loads of dirt, rocks and wood I have many chips out of it and have been thinking of going black with it. I think this is the rout I am going to go when I do it. Thanks for the info!

Good decision in avoiding the Rhino/Line-X route. I've about decided to leave mine as they are until I find a set of smooth factory painted ones.

A lot of the fat-fendered street rod guys also apply this under their wheel wells to absorb rock/stone impacts that would pop the paint off of the top side of the fenders. Well, those that aren't trailer queens any way. Works well for that too.
