For any of you that seen the news today. Here in the Houston area we got pounded with rain. The back side of Erin got us. High water everywhere.

Well my wifes '01 Escape engine got hydrolocked 2 blocks from home. The air snorkel is behind the headlight. The air box has no drain holes on the inlet side of the filter.

It is the 3.0 V6. I got the front cylinders clear but the three spark plugs on the back are under the upper intake. What a pain in the ass design. Oil change for the motor and trans if I can get it to roll over. Carpet is soaked also.

I just hope it didnt bend a rod or damaged the engine. Imight just turn it over to USAA insurance. Anyone every deal with a high water claim??

I have Eddie. Just a few months ago, my daughter (whom I referred to in a previous post) "claimed" that she didn't realize how high the water was that she drove into. Sucked a bunch of it into the engine of her Sable and bent 2 rods. Guess she moves onto car # 7. Or is it 8, 9 or 10?

Sorry to be of no help but I couldn't help it. As they say, laughter is the best medicine!!!

I had a '74 VW beetle that I hydrolocked. I let it dry out for 4 days and started it. It blew water 40 feet and then ran great for 2 years.

If you clear it and get it running, change the oil in both the tranny and motor....

The high water claim if you drove it into the water is part of the fire, theft, damage, ins.

I don't know what it would be if it was flooded....

I'm not sure, but if you have tried to make the repairs yourself, then the insurance may not pay. They could claim that you damaged the vehicle during the repairs. I hope USAA is better than that, but we all know if you had Ford as you insurance company you would be SOL. Good luck getting back on the road. Happily, your vehicle and wife weren't swept away in high water.

Wow! I just left Houston too! Glad you wife is ok, that had to be scarey for her. Hope everything works out for her Escape.

Got water in the intake?

Why were you, or her, driving in deep water? You are only asking for trouble.

Hopefully you get it back running. Like Allstate would say to the employees "We insure stupidity".

Seriously though, count your blessings she/you did not have to be rescued by helicoptor and everyone would see you/her on CNN. Replacing a vehicle is nothing. Replacing a life is impossible. It could have been alot worse.

Fast Eddie,

i would just tell them that she left the vehicle because she couldnt get it through the water and there was no where left to go. They dont need to know that she drove into the water.

Fast Eddie, whatever you do, don't lie to the insurance company. If they ask questions, answer them honestly, without giving any additional details that are not required.

Insurance fraud penalties are real, and depending on the amount of the claims can be a felony in your state. Regardless, most people think for whatever reason that if they lie and claim non-negligence (or no fault) that somehow the insurance company will be more lenient, and their rates won't go up, etc. That's simply not the case. Insurance companies "forgiveness policies" are pretty well defined, and strict.
