I'm heading down to San Diego to take a Federal job placement test Tuesday 8am. I'll be coming from L.A. and was planning on leaving around 4am. Not sure if this is too early or too late so I'm wondering if those from the area can give me feedback on what kind of traffic I can expect so I don't miss the 8:00 appointment.

I'm taking I-5 most of the way, then according to mapquest, I need to get on I-805, CA-52E, then CA-163S to exit off Kearny Mesa Rd.

Thanks in advance!

If you miss the rush hour, it used to take 3 hours to drive from LA to San Diego back in the mid-90s when I last lived there. It took about 5 hours when the highways were backed up, but that was also in the aftermath of the Northridge Quake which messed up several of the main highways.

If I were going for a job interview, I would leave the night before and get a hotel. You will also be well-rested for the interview that way. Plus, you never know when one of those interstate pile-ups will delay you three or four hours.

edit: Good luck on your new job! :D

Thanks Nelson. The thing about getting a room is, by the time I get off work Monday there'll be traffic all the way down to SD. So I'll be wretched by the time I check in and it'd probably be bedtime by then (no time to review). I won't sleep well either due to anxiety plus my body is used to waking up around 5am and will do so automatically. A wasted effort (and some money) IMO. Because of my current schedule I'm well accustomed to waking up very early, but I get sleepy relatively early as well. So the morning trek is apparently my best option.

Take a limo down the night before, study while someone else drives. Then sleep in the hotel and take a limo home after the test. But then, that's even more $$

Try the Coaster. It will drop you at the Santa Fe depot in Downtown SD. You are a short walk away formthe Federal Building. And it is perfect weather right now for a walk in the morning. No hassle as far as driving. And you may be able ot get some reading/studying in on the way if you can force yourself to take your eyes of the beautiful scenery on the way down.

Thanks for the suggestions. I decided to drive and I left house around 4am and got to my destination with plenty of time to spare; good thing too cuz I got a little lost. Anyhow, the test humbled my ego some cuz it was hard! I didn't get an excellent score but I was amongst the lucky few that passed!

On to Trac talk: Uhm, I drove over 300 miles and the Trac used up almost 3/4 of a tank. Seemed excessive at first but that's actually right around 20mpg. Considering the way I drove and with the A/C at certain times...I guess I can't complain. My Trac's loving this XCal 91-octane performance tune, that's for sure. I'm loving the Flowmaster standard 40 too! Sounds great! It's pathetic I choose to leave the radio off for it.

Long day...goodnight!
