In a continuation of fair and balanced reporting of recalls, here is today's news...

Approximately 700,000 Honda Fits and Freeds are being recalled due to potentially defective spring parts that can cause engine stalling and inability to restart.

Yep, that's what I have been saying to everyone I know who worships their imports. I am not making them out ot be the worse cars, but just to agree that NOT ALL AMERICAN DOMESTIC cars are bad, and that ALL MAKES have problems! Just waiting for the shoe to drop on whoever is next with faulty builds of their "prized" automobiles. Nuff said!

Marv,

Correct. What people also don't understand is that Japan was at least two decades ahead of Detroit in the design of their autos. My specific point being that Japan was way ahead of the curve in using fewer components across a greater number of makes and models. Because of this, it is more common to see a recall due to a defective part on a Japanese brand have a higher # of affected automobiles, because the part in question was used in a greater number of makes and models.

I only say this because on the surface some of the numbers of the recent Japanese recalls seems staggering, and makes the problem seem worse than the domestics. However, that's not a completely balanced view of things due to the dynamics I've stated.

Using fewer parts across more vehicles is a very good thing and should increase quality, when all the right quality measures fall into place. However, when some defect goes through...watch out.

The American automakers are following suit. Fewer parts, more reuse.
