Has anyone had their OEM horn replaced? Did the dealer do it? Is it a project someone has done? How many wrenches is it as a project? What was the dealer cost to have it replaced? I want to replace it, as I have a replacement in place at another location under the hood and I don't want it to stay there. HELP!

:unsure::blink::eek:

The horn is usually 1-2 screws and 1-2 wire push on connectors. Some times they are in a tight spot, and you may have to remove somethings to get to it. I would say a 1-2 wrenches in difulcuty...

As far as cost, probably 1 hour labor plus parts...

Thanks Todd Z. I may try it this weekend, it's going to be cold here in TX for a change and I may or may not get it done then. From looking at the area the horn is located in, I may have to remove the front tire (for ease of mind!) to get to it. It is located under the headlight area and above the fog light area. BTW, I have to replace the right fog light to replace one that is broken, so I have some work to do. Thanks again for your help! :)

nevermind, I misread part of what you wrote.

Here ya go, Darrel. My son got me this electric train horn for Christmas. I can't tell you how it sounds yet, because I haven't had time to install it yet. I'm putting it in next month after the weather warms up and I finish with college classes.

I need to do the same with mine, I think it is going out :unsure:. Marvyn I am also located in Dallas. We need to find some people that are willing to have a mini meet, if you are interested.

I have 01 Trac & I fitted triple air horns [big truck sound] remove batt & grill allthree will fit behind front moulding need to bend & cut factory mounts,Dont let them get in way of the airflow, the compreser will fit just in front of batt at the centre corner,good luck

thanks to all for helpful comments. Roger, I don't know if I want that much horn, even though it will get folks back in their lane pretty quickly, I just want to be able to make it original-like so the horn will sound when I lock it. I do have something rigged up via a button near the steering wheel-it' s not easy to reach for it all the time, and you need a horn in Dallas TX, especially on the freeways! Boodro & Pimpedoutst, are you aware of the North Texas Sport Trac Association? There is a chapter here in the Metroplex, and there are occassional meets from time to time. There is, to my knowledge, a member who has a direct contact with a Ford rep who monitors the ST. Boo, that may be a possibility about having a mini-meet and I am interested, so let's keep that in mind and maybe get the word out to people we meet here in Dallas. I often see a lot of potential members, whether they are interested or not is another story, but let's keep hope alive, as I would like to make the pilgrimage to Louisville to the ST meet sponsored between our site and Ford that is taking place in June of this year. ANYway, I can't wait to get this horn thing done, weather permitting. Will let you all know the results ASAP! I wonder how many members from this site are from the DFW area? How many are there......?

I bought these road blaster horns at autozone for about $10 each and wired them to go off with the stock horn. I mounted them under the tooltray/radiator shield, and they sound nice and deep and LOUD. Here are some pics with the tool tray inverted so you can see the horns.

I had previously mounted my airhorns to this location as well, but found that they were too high pitched for what I wanted.

Tabjo.... nice location for those horns, and I bet they BLAST IT OUT! BTW, how did you connect to the original horn wiring, or did you go around about? Give me the details because I may do mine similar, as long as they sound off with the remote when locking the doors.:D

mrmarvyn,

I used a relay and tap spliced it to the wire leading into the horn itself. The wiring is a negative trigger wiring, and the horns go off in conjunction with the factory horn. The horn is located in front of the driver's side wheel well right under the battery. You can see it here to the upper right of the fog light in ST'errifffic's picture of hist ST apart.
