hoses under the spare tire

My check engine light keeps coming on and all they tell me is that the gas cap is bad. I finally got them to look for something else and they said that the two hoses under the spare tire are leaking and thats why my check gas cap and check engine light keep coming on. Does this sound right? How hard is it to change them? They want to charge me $80, I already paid $80 for the "Diagnostic" to figure it out.

Those hoses are part of the evaporative emissions system (EVAP) and if you have a leak there it could be misdiagnosed as a faulty/loose gas cap.

I have had the pack rats chew mine up to the point that I had a check engine light also.
