I'd like to improve the audio system in my 2005 ST. I currently have the CD/cassette/mp3 system, no subwoofer. The headunit has no subwoofer connection, so I know I'll need different one (probably go to a Pioneer 6-CD changer unit). In addition to the headunit, what more will I need? Can anyone point me to part numbers and prices? I'd like to keep it OEM, but if anyone knows of a slick aftermarket set up which is plug and play, please let me know.

thanks -

You'll need the wiring harness, which is about $30 if I remember correctly. I did the same thing in my '02 ST. I just bought the head unit and subwoofer on eBay, and then the harness from a site sponsor. Pretty easy install.

I think if you go OEM you are going to overpay for crappy quality/output.

An aftermarket 8" in a box with an amp will sound better, and more than likely be much cheaper.

First stop checkout HatchBox (site sponsors link)

Total aftermarket cost for a moderate system should be $300ish.. so I guess it depends on what you can get the OEM stuff for.

Richard,

There's a project on this site for installing a factory sub-woofer. It has part numbers for both the sub and wiring harness. It's the same project I used to install the factory sub on my '02 ST. Linked below. Hope it helps.

Drop me a line if you have anymore questions

The project is from me. Not hard to do, and the improvement was worth the effort. Keep in mind, I paid $50.00 for the amp assembly and got the harness new for less then $15.00.

Since then, Ford re-numbered the wire harness and it is near $80.00.

I suggest finding it from a salvage yard as it is not a big deal to pull..

Click my wrench for details...

Just being curious here. What would you consider a good price for the total package? Not trying to high jack the thread. And sorry if it sounds like I did. Total package 04 Adrenalin including: HU, AMP, 4 Doors Speakers, Subwoofer, Sub enclosure, And all of the wiring that is left over that isn't being used...

If you can get it from a member I would think 125 to 150 for everything as the harness is the biggest hassle. It is easy, but does take about 40 minutes to get out and put the Trac back together...

Guys,

I think the reason he's asking bout an OEM HU and sub is because it's an easy, plug-and-play, relatively inexpensive install/upgrade.

Sure, the OEM systems don't have the sound quality of an aftermarket system. But, you're going to pay much more for that aftermarket system. And either have the additional headache of installation, or additional installation costs.

Many people, myself included, are very satisfied with OEM stereos. Consumer demand has caused car manufacturers to actually install decent OEM systems these days. These aren't your father's (or grandfather's) two-button, AM-only, one speaker car radios anymore!

TrainTrac is correct. I'm an old guy and just need a little more performance and bass from my audio. :D

Seriously, I recently made a subwoofer only upgrade in my wife's jeep (with an OEM kit added to the factory HU), and the sound difference was well worth the $150 cost. I just thought I'd try the same with the ST. Meanwhile if anyone has a 'behind the seat' sub from a '01-'05 non Adrenalin for sale, holler at me.

thanks

Hey, my last AM 8-track radio had FIVE buttons! And TWO speakers, one front and one back!

I Have an '02 ST with the sub in the back. I'm replacing the stock 6.5" sub with an aftermarket 6.5" sub and need to drive it with an aftermarket amp I got.

Can someone please post a color-coded list of the 5 wires going to the harness which connects to the stock amp that *WAS* there?

I'm pretty sure I can tell what is what... but just wanna make sure I'm right.

I appreciate any help you can offer.
