I am trying to replace my DPFE sensor on a 2002 and can't get the old one off. Any ideas on how to remove the DPFE sensor with out damaging anything in the process? Thank you much for your help.

Joe

Hope you bought one in a FORD (4U7Z-9J460-AA) or MOTORCRAFT (DPFE4) bag so you don't have to replace it again in year ....

TSB 04-11-1 DRIVEABILITY - STREAMLINED DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE FOR VEHICLES WITH MIL ON AND DTCS P0401, P0402, P1400 OR P1401 - ADDITIONAL SYMPTOMS MAY INCLUDE RUNS ROUGH, LACKS POWER, SURGE, POOR FUEL ECONOMY

This article supersedes TSB 04-3-1 to update service part information and applications.

ISSUE:

Some vehicles may exhibit a malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) "ON" with or without the following symptoms: Rough Running, Lack of Power, Surge or Poor Fuel Economy, along with diagnostic trouble codes (DTC's) P0401, P0402, P1400 or P1401. This may be caused by an intermittently functioning tube-mounted delta pressure feedback EGR (DPFE) sensor (Figure 1).

ACTION:

For vehicles equipped with a tube-mounted DPFE sensor, perform the following diagnostic procedure and repair action. This procedure supersedes the diagnostic procedure in the PC/ED Manual for the issue described above.

NOTE: ALL LISTED APPLICATIONS CAN NOW BE SERVICED WITH DPFE SENSOR 4U7Z-9J460-AA

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Retrieve continuous DTC(s).

If P0401, P0402, P1400 or P1401 are present, turn ignition OFF and replace the DPFE sensor.

Clear continuous DTC(s).

Perform key on engine off (KOEO) and key on engine running (KOER) self-test.

Remove the elec, connector, pull the sensor off the fascia connector, remove the two hoses,

reverse for the install, is not rocket science.

Make sure you buy an actual Ford DPFE sensor. I went to Autozone or Advance auto. That sensor would cause the check engine light to come back on. I finally went and got the actual Ford DPFE, now the check engine light is gone.

Around $76.00 from Ford Dealer just for the part, don't pay them to put it in because it is too easy to do it yourself, takes five minutes. If you want to try your luck with a part from Autozone or Advance, I think it is around $36.00 but I don't suggest this. I learned the hard way and bought the cheap part first and it never would turn off my check engine light, so I had to buy from the Ford Dealer.
