Ok, My aunts wireless router is a d-link router. She can not remember her network password for my laptop to sin on. Also she can't remember her login name or password. What can I do to help her out and get my laptop hooked up to her wireless.

if it's default it's either admin/admin or admin/password

if it's not default then you have to reset the router....

i have question regarding routers also.. my son about 3 weeks ago put the recovery cd's in our disktop. due to it was running slow. and my daughter kept downloading everything in site. so we wanted to fix the desktop.. so my ? is. when he did that, we have 2 laptops that are hooked up to a wireless router. and about 3 days after he recovered the desktop. we could get online with the laptops. and about on the 4th day we couldn't log online on our laptops. but we went to internet connections on the laptops it said conncection excellent and status: good. but when we try to pull up a page it would say down on the bottom finding site. and then about a couple minutes later the page we wanted would come up and it would say PAGE CANNOT BE DISPLAYED. and i dont know what the heck happened so does anyone have any idea on what could be the problem. if i cant fix it our selfs the im going to have to have the geek squad from bestbuys come out and check the wireless system out. and that bill will be a 159.00 dollar. so i would like any advice on this problem thanks

It's been a while since I worked with a DLink but you need to go to one of the computers that is currently communicating with the router. Then open internet explorer and go to the address http://192.168.0.1. When a login box comes up type in admin as the username and leave the password blank. This is all assuming that your aunt didn't change the default settings. In here go to wireless security and you will see a password for either WAP or WEP. Once in there you can reset the password to something you will remember. You will need to enter this same password on all her wireless devices and also on your laptop.

Ladybug,

Reinstalling the desktop shoudn't have any effect on the laptops that are connecting wirelessly, especially since it was fine 3 days later. Are any of the computers able to get online? It sounds like the problem is with the communication between the router and your modem. I just need some more details like can anyone get online, if you are using a cable modem, etc. and the brand of the router. Did you lost power in the house recently? Maybe this will narrow things down.

George's directions are pretty close to what your after, however, if you do not have the Security Key you will not be able to change the internal password. As noted above I think the best thing for you to do is to do a Hard Reset of the unit.

From there it will go to factory default settings, (no internal passwords).

I say internal as it is a stored password, (The security key). This password has nothing to do with the router password.

Big D,

I have a D-Link wireless router. The default UserID is admin and leave the password blank.

That works provided she did not change the UserID or password. If she did change the defaults, you will have to press the reset (button on the back). That will reset the router back to factory defaults and resets the UserID and Password to the defaults.

If you have any problems email me. I have the docutmentation and should be able to help you.
