I bought my 20's because I wanted some nice big chrome rims and tires. Now I hate them. The maintenance required is just unreal to me. They need to be wiped once a day and polished once a week. I will never buy after market rims again. Not to mention almost $2,000.00 in tires plus the cost of the rims. And to go even further the dang tires rubbing the frame and I believe the extra weight has diminished my braking ability. So my question is I want to go back to a Ford stock rim. I see good prices on Sport Trac rims and tires Ebay and Craigslist but what other common Ford vehicle rim will fit the Sport Trac perfectly as stock. What about the common F150 steel rims with center caps will they fit? I want a utility type rim.

Where are your stock rims ???

The Gen 1 ST is a rim specific vehicle.... only the Sport Sport Trac and ranger rims will work for direct fit....

I think some one may trade you OEM stuff and $$ for your rims and tires... Just a thought..

When I buy rims and tires. Iam picky about size and weight. Also I think about the ease of cleaning. The most important thing is I find out the offset and width of the OEM rim, compared to the new rim. and the diameter of the stock tire. I sit down with a calculator and draw a diagram of the OEM and the New one. That gives me the best Idea of the fit.

I have had many freinds just buy what looks good. Some wheel dealers dont go into the fitment specs as I do. They tell you they fit. But they dont fit as good as they should.

When it comes to wheels over 17 to 18". Two piece wheels are your best bet for weight. The centers are light weight cast. The rim is a light wieght strong aluminum alloy sheet. It is rolled in a press the shape of the rim. The two pieces are welded together.

The stang in my library are 2 piece wheels. Without a tire, I could pick them up with one finger.

Me,

I have (5) stock rims from my '01 for sale.......... They are in nice shape and just sitting in my garage taking up space. Lugs and caps too.

Me,

Check out my library, The rims on my truck are for sale with tires on them. You can have the bright shiny wheels like mine. I replaced mine with black cragar soft 8's and 31's.

I have crown victoria steel wheels on my truck, they fit fine. There are plenty of wheels that will fit, I don't believe Todd's words up there myself.

Ranger wheels are all over the place, go post on a ranger site, you'll find someone willing to work a deal with you.

Find a shop that will actually sit and talk with you about what you want and need. If they just want to point to shiny rims and say "those would look great," walk away.

I think Todd is probably right about finding someone that would trade with you. It may require a lot of patience, though.

I was checking interest in selling mine as well with nearly new 32" tires. I've had a few people interested from Craigslist but I have to wait to see what's going on with the wheels/tires I want to buy.:banghead:

I live near the ocean and know very well about the care of chrome, since I have a Harley. After install, wheels were cleaned then polished and finally a good waxing. I do this about once a month. when they come off for the winter, the same process is done, including the inside of the wheel. The wheel/tire is then put in a large ziptie trash bag and the set is put in my workshop for the winter. I chose the style of my wheel for the following reasons:

1) They resemble the stock STA rims.

2) Because of the design, they are very easy to keep clean.

3) I rotate every 5000miles, free of charge.

4) The switch to snow tires counts as a rotaion, no charge.

If you wanna dance, you gotta pay the fiddler. Thats the price for buying chrome. Bob

Ok I believe I have a decision on what I want and I need you internet wheel and tire guys to help me out for the best price. I think someone posted them above and said they had a set on their vehicle. I want the:

Black enamel gloss steel wheels with eight holes and Ford chrome center caps commonly found on Crown Victoria police cars. 16" or 17" inch I am not sure. I have a 2005 XLT if it makes a difference.

I am also interested in ordering from one of those internet wheel and tire package places that send you the mounted and balanced tire with lug nuts and everything needed ready to install. I saw an Ebay place that had tire and wheel packages for $1000.00 shipped but I didn't check for this particular wheel. Anybody know any good deals for this wheel? I would also consider used or trade ins if in excellent condition.

Gen 1 Sport Tracs will require the p71 wheels used on 2002 and down year models. They're 16"x7". In 2003 they went to 17" wheels with an offset not compatible with the Gen 1's. You can find the wheels new for $50-$60, not including lugs/caps, if you search around. There are 2 cap styles. One is a raised cap and is the same as the Ranger/Explorer/Sport Trac and the other is a "pancake" cap. It will probably be difficult to find a package deal on these wheels.

Pancake style on our Sound-Off car.

Ranger/Explorer/Sport trac style cap. These belong to someone here IIRC.

chrome rims do require some daily upkeep but when you LOVE them --it's a labor of love and really taking 5 mins to wipe them down and once a week to polish or never dull them... is not a big deal or I should say it wasn't when I ran on my 20's

Roll with pride ;)
