Hello All - Thank you for all of your expert help. What a month I've had with my 2002 Sport Trac with 208K miles.

1. Lingering coolant leak got worse - Ended up being lower thermostat housing. Had to cut it apart to get it out.

2. Water pump began leaking 2 days later. I had replaced previously, so this one cost -0- due to warranty and I put it in.

3. 4X4 Transfer Case Motor failed communicating with module. Replaced for the 2nd time since original.

4. Picked up a nail in my right rear tire. Plugged.

5. Something in the rear started making noise Sunday. Rear differential or bearing.......Quickly getting worse.......Now vibration in seat and steering wheel......Starting in on this tonight.......I'll report back.

I thought that I should have been done after the 4x4 motor - Don't things like this come in 3's??????

Feel bad for you. But look at the bright side, all the knowledge you have gained. Keep us informed with what you find with the noise in rear end. I have the same thing and have been wondering what it is.
Thanks

Definitely the rear differential. Not sure what part(s) are making the noise. Was able to find a used rear end in IL from a 2002 Sport Trac, 4.10 gears, and 110K ($400). Decided to swap the entire rear assembly. Things went smoothly, and truck runs good. Had to replace brake hardware and adjusters. Used the Valvoline 75w140 along with the friction modifier. I hope I'm done for awhile!!
