I'm talking about the thin plastic gasket in the picture below. When I removed my old switch, it did not have one. SO, I left it off. What is it, what's its purpose, and should I have installed it?

Solved: When I pulled apart the ignition switch connector to replace it, I didn't even notice the plastic gasket connected to the connector (plug). It connects to the connector, not the switch. It fits so tight that it appeared to be part of the connector (plug). I found it when I went back in to check my switch a second time. It's so tight in the connector that, In fact, I broke my old one getting it off. Thankfully, I had the new one to replace it.
