A former high school classmate brought me a surprise today. She's been quietly working on a painting of my pet starling for a few months. I nearly cried when she brought it over.

Mark,

Great art work!!! Very realistic looking...almost looks like a photograph..I particularly like the feather coloring....Some might think the colors make it more unrealistic, but some birds do have iridescent feathers that can change colors based on the angle the light strikes them. I think this painting captures that iridescence which adds to the realistic look.

That is the kind of painting that I would pay good money to own...You are very lucky to have such a talented and generous friend. My only concern is that I don't see a signature on the painting? Perhaps that is because it was a gift to you as a friend?

If she sells her paintings, pass along here name and email or website. I would be interested in seeing more of her work and perhaps make a purchase if she is selling her work. You can contact me at my private email address.

I wonder if she didn't use some sort of metallic paint. The morning sun was shining on the painting and the irridescence jumped out. It actually appeared metallic.

The detail in the multiple colors, must have took some time.

She did an amazing job. Capturing the color change on individual feathers, and detailing one feather from the other.....:supercool:

I do a lots of waterfowl carving and painting. You can buy iridescence paint or powder of all tints. You just mix it in to you paint. If used correctly it is usually just seen from certain light and angles. I will see if I have any pictures of one. Nice Painting. It does need to be signed and dated.
