Aloha Guys,

Unlike what many may think, it does get cold in Hawai'i. Do any of you have any knowledge of infra-red heaters? Are they safe? efficient? Any thoughts will be helpful.

God bless Ed

Yea, way down to a blustery 60 degrees. :bwahaha:

Seriously, are you talking about heaters like the Eden Pure?

I worked in an abandoned home with no heat for days using just two infa-red heaters.

They did a good job for what I was asking them to do.

In a closed room, they did a GOOD job..

I'd be curious to hear about others' experiences with this type of heater. I'm considering getting one for my basement for the winters. The living area of my basement is about 800-1000 sq ft, so I wonder how well one of these would work down there.

Train..

My parents have one. They simply love it. Personally, I don't "feel" the heat they claim they feel. My father is one of those people that if Paul Harvey says it is good, then it works great, no matter what. I am not sure if that is "clouding his judgement".

We bought an Eden Pure a couple of years ago. As far as I'm concerned it was a waste of money. I didn't feel like you could really feel the heat unless you were sitting very close to it. By the end of the season, it was no longer putting out heat at all. Now I have a $350 end table.

They are just a very good heater in a very nice cabinet. They are no more efficient or effective than the $19.99 little 1500 heater at wal-mart-- just look nice and are pretty quiet, but for the $300+ people pay for them, they ought to be.

Have Eden Pure heaters as an experiment against using the horrendous central heating.

They seem to work fine, didn't freeze in the blizzard, and you can actually touch them, unlike a 1500 watt heater from walmart. Cats took to actually sitting on top while they were in use.

Will say that the Gen One heaters were crappy--one actually had the front panel melt, but we shipped it off and got another one free of charge.

(And I'd never say that the cabinet is very nice, just flat black plastic/metal and faux wood around the vent)

These Gen 2/3 Eden Pures, that we have now, have the issue that the TV remote for FiOS toggles them on and off if they have LOS to the remote.

Definitely quiet, and money was saved over previous years where central heat was used. Though we weren't as toasty as with central heat, but hey, I needed to get up and exercise anyhow
