Internet Security Question.

I just bought a wi-fi blu ray to watch netflix and regular dvds but had to turn off my WEP security on my wireless router to make it work. Now my connection is "open" to the public. Of course no-one lives closer than 1/4 mile away... What if anything do I need to do to protect my connection and or pc's.

You could try to turn off the SSID so people can not see your open network.

If the dvd player doesn't work with security at least up to WPA there is something wrong with it.

WEP and WPA should work. WPA is a step above WEP as far as wireless security is concerned.

Your blue ray player should support any of those. I would do WPA2 for simplicity while still having a very secure network. You will need to setup each device after enabling the security on the router though.



Don't do mixed, I've seen people and devices get confused by this option.
