Hey everyone. I've heard that Ford will no longer be producing Sport Tracs. Heard that the Gen 2 is the last of the bunch. Anyone else hear that? Will there be Sport tracs in the future and if not, why?

The Sport Trac as we know it is dead. Personally, I would mind a new Sport Trac on the new Explorer chassis.

That decision was made some time ago. The 2010 will be the last, barring some miracle awakening on their part to realize there IS a strong market for a truck with ST characteristics.

Not likely to happen.

just picked up 2011 suv/truck color chip brochure on friday when i picked up the st at the dealer. the sport trac is no longer listed.

sorry no miracle

Sorry Kate, but, :boohoo: The closest we can hope/pray for is that the new T6 Ranger will make it to our country. Ford may realize this one day. Maybe they'll drop the F-150, substitute the new Ranger and offer something with a bit more comfort in the Super Duty line. Sounds like a win-win to me. But what do I know. Bob

PS: Does anybody know how to get in touch(mail/phone) with an appropriate person at Ford and tell them what we think?

The F-Series is a series of full-size pickup trucks from Ford Motor Company sold for over six decades. The most popular variant of the F-Series is the F-150. It was the best-selling vehicle in the United States for 24 years and has been the best-selling truck for 34 years,

I've read that ST production will stop in Louisville, KY sometime in December 2010 and that special orders are no longer being taken.

The 'concept' or 'photoshopped' photo shown strongly resembles the Volkswagen Amarok truck which in turn resembles the Honda Ridgeline. I'd guess both are those are pleasant vehicles, but I much prefer my 2010 ST :driving:

Now, I just hope that the 2nd Gen STs continue to hold their value well, I'm thinking they will as the truck has no direct competitor now and even less so when production ceases.

And as others have mentioned, Ford is really showing poor judgement with the lack of a modern Ford Ranger replacement. I've owned F150s and they are very good at what they do, but they are just too big for my needs, even in regular cab form.

Cheers, B3

I agree B3, I owned two 150's before my first Trac, an '04, and two Rangers before the 150's, but the Tracs are just so versitle for what I want, the 150 is just so big compared to the Trac and the Ranger for that matter. I hauled enough wood and all the trimmings with my '07 Trac with a hitch extension, that I made, for a 12' x 12' extension on my deck. This was the biggest load I asked my Trac to do, and it done it well. My wife hates the size of the 150, this is one of the main reasons I found a '10 Trac to replace my '07. Love the rendering of the new Explorer as a Trac, wish Ford would do something like this. Come on Ford, see the light........

The rear doors on the photoshopped pic are way too small to be useful. Perhaps it could be done as an extended cab with smaller suicide doors.

The problem is that the Trac would have to be very compatible with the Explorer and use as few of altered parts as possible, and the main body dimensions would have to be the same in order to make it profitable and buildable. It may be that the design of the new explorer would make a Trac vehicle impossible to build.

I guess we can dream, though. Even with dreaming, would you really want a unibody Trac built on a car frame? Would it even be useful?

would you really want a unibody Trac built on a car frame

If they did you can weld in subframe connectors and a strut tower brace.

Also weld some metal plates to strengthen the torque boxes.

Itsdonr on performance stangs all the time. I estimate the cost to be $500..

I too am having trouble of the thought of going into a full size truck, i simply do not need one if i did I would have bought that instead of the trac . Fuel economy is not the only reason people buy a truck it is a plus but I put my needs first. I actually just got done looking at a Nissan Frontier crew cab , nice looking truck. I would love to buy another ford BUT I'm not going to be forced into something I do not need or have room for in my garage . A f150 is not out of the picture but above what i really need. Ford I know you sometimes read this stuff but you need to listen to your customers be for they become somebody else s customers.

RIDGELINE!

I have absolutely no idea what I would replace this STA with. Nohing looks as good or is this size with this kind of utility. Maybe it will be time for me to go back toa full on suv again. Thinking a 2011 or 2012+ srt8 grand Cherokee.

I could never make the jump to Ridgeline. A Front-Wheel Drive truck?! That's an oxymoron.

Nor could I go back to the SUV. Over the weekend, family members decided to buy some trees (about 7 feet tall, maybe 50 lbs a piece). Instead of asking for me to assist with the ST, they used a 2010 RAV4. Despite covering everything with cloths and tarps, it took over an hour to vacuum out all the detritus from the trees.

I for one am still majorly annoyed that the new F150 is supposed to dominate the current STs on gas mileage. It isn't as though the new F150 uses some brand-new, just-invented engine technology. It's the same old stuff that could have been put in way back when the STs were made.

Had that been done, the Explorer class could have gotten sufficient mpg such that Ford wouldn't have had to go & make this pitiful new crossover (bleh) and slap the "Explorer" moniker on it in response to the new fuel efficiency laws.

(And I would have saved more gas money, and probably would have more miles on my ST...where's the downside?)
