This happened locally but is now making waves nationally. Law firm giving a seminar to employers on how to NOT hire Americans.

Lou Dobbs' comments.

Just goes to show what I've believed for a long time...there are not jobs Americans won't do but there are wages Americans won't work for.

The lawyers may be scum, but in fairness what they're doing is telling companies how to legally do what the companies already want to do.

Yeah, these lawyers are scummy.

But they are targeting a minority of companies with their service, I think. That minority includes those companies that want to work the system, bypassing capable Americans to instead hire foreign workers.

What I have found as much more prevalent are companies that are dismayed that they have to resort to H1-Bs because they can't find Americans with the skills, in the numbers they need. In other words, its a shortage problem.

Yes, we would like to believe that all companies are working the system to hire outside the country. But the reality as I see it is that most would rather hire Americans but can't.

TJR,

I somewhat agree. Our schools seem to want to create good little compliant citizens of the world instead people with knowledge skills who can learn how to learn.

I taught economics and business courses part-time at two local community colleges from 1993 to 2003, I was amazed at how increasingly stupid the incoming students became over that time.

Johnny0,

Yes, I am afraid I have seen the same thing. I have noted a general drop in passion, confidence, ambition and ability in young adults the past 10 to 15 years.

I'm not sure why.

As the father of 3, I wish I knew. Our 14yo applied for about a 1/2 dozen part-time jobs over the summer. As a kid I worked on farms (our own and others) all summer long from the age of 12. My kids live in the burbs and family farms that would hire out kids are pretty much gone, so he is working your typical teen jobs: McDonalds, dishwasher at a diner, etc. I'm proud because he gets good grades and it didn't take much prodding for him to realize he should work. Still, I am concerned.

Its true that more minorities are taking alot of the jobs.... I work construction and see lots of minorities, i think part of the reason is that so many companies have them so they can do jobs for cheaper and in return sell more jobs and make more money... Well the down side to that is all the other companies are doing the same thing just so they can compete with the other bids...... And guess what.. Most americans dont have the willingness to work as hard and for the same amount of money as the minorities are....
