just finished up the front brakes on my 01 replaced the pads and the rotors

while i was at it i pulled the backs and found they are still the original brakes

at 54500 miles so that is next on my list along with shocks. yes, i also found

that they are original all the way around and the backs are rusting to pieces.

Just did my pads last week. Right on time at about every 25k. Left the rotors alone as I'm planning on getting the cryo treated power slot rotors pretty soon here.

Could spend the couple of extra bucks and upgrade the rears to disc........

Todd,

i had actually thought about doing that but then i only put 13k

on my last truck in 3.5 years since i use my motorcycle the majority

of the time so i dont think the extra expense to switch to disc would

be worth it in the long run.

one other thing i did was switch some tires around. when i bought

it in august they had put 1 brand new tire on it good year rt/s and i asked

the salesman why only 1 tire and he said when they get a flat on the lot

they replace it with new. so i had one new tire and 3 with about 30k on them.

while checking the brakes i noticed that the spare was brand new and was

the matching rt/s i assume from the recall so i had that mounted on the alloy

and put both of the new ones up front.

big difference in ride and feel from the truck now even with the bad shocks.

i used to have a slight shimmy at 70 which i attributed to the cupping and its

gone now.

new shocks and back brakes within the next 2 weeks and i should be set

for winter.

I traded in my '01 ST with 71K miles and the original shoes/drumbs in the rear. First time I have seen brakes last that long, especially OEM parts. The brakes were the typical mushy Ford brakes needing semi-frequent adjusting and bleeding. But in the NYC stop and go driving, or actually the NYC stop, stop, move up alittle, stop and go then stop again driving, you cant expect much from brakes.
