finally got around to installing my 3" universal air filter. i recieved today my aluminum 3" MAF sensor adapter that i ordered online but realized i needed a 3.5" so to modify it to fit i simply used a drill to largen the holes on all four corners so they could match up with the MAF boot. Everything looks good, its hardly noticeable that its not the right size, the edges are just about flush. i just wanted to get some input from a few of you and find out if it will effect anything using a 3" adapter when my MAF boot has an opening of 3.5". the sport trac runs fine, sounds tougher, makes a loud roar now. i can definitely feel a big difference in power. its unrealistic how much of a difference it made. but i do hear a thudding sound when idle. almost like a fart, also when i change from P to N,D,R etc

is this normal. it sounds like the sound made if you took your air silencer off your factory air box. and also when i lightly give it gas it makes like screeching sound. almost sounds like a turbo lol. any help or inputs would be great.

Sounds like you got everything to work, just make sure all the clamps are tightened down good or you'll get a air leak and will throw a CEL. Pictures would be great too. The loud roaring sound is just the extra air being sucked in, it's normal. Check out my setup and see if it's pretty similair. The fart sound is normal as well. As far as the thudding sound, it could be the filter hitting off either the rad support or the tray, I solved that problem by making a metal bracket to hold the filter up in the air away from anything. :haveabeer::banana:

the thuddin is the fart sound. and yes jerry everything works well. thank you for your previous help in answering my keen questions. so i shouldnt be worried about having an aluminum 3" adapter when my MAF boot is 3.5" i mean i made it flush pretty good and tightened it good with the gasket in between so its sealed good. and as of right now i left the bottom part of my factory air box in so the adapter actually sits on there. but i went out and got some aluminum wire to make it support/bracket for it.

Yea you should be fine with the adapter setup. I'll take some pictures in the morning and post them on here so you can see the bracket I made. Look in Fast Eddies library and check out the baffle he made for his to keep out the engine heat. :haveabeer:

yeah i saw one on there. anyway any idea what that screeching sound could be, it sounds like a dog whistle. very high pitched. and once again on that fart noise, is it really normal to hear it when idling or every time time i change from P to N,R or D.
