Knocking sound during shut off.

You do NOT want to hear what I expect it is, but, at the mileage, it's likely the timing chains. I have an '06 with the same motor, 40K fewer miles, but I'm listening for the same. If it's knocking within the motor (not the heads), it's likely the timing chains. AND, unless you want to re-build the motor, it's not something you want to deal with. I'd highly suggest selling it to someone else. But, if you love your ST, then maybe you want to rebuild it, or maybe put a 5.0 Coyote in it. :)

My '06 Explorer is not an ST, so I can part with it easier (although my GF loves her SUV). BUT, I won't spend any money once the motor is toast. AND, I'll never again buy anything that doesn't have a V8.

Hers is starting to give me grief, and I hate it. Traded my GT500 for it (and some coin), so will hate to lose it (it's pretty). BUT, it's a V6, and dang me for ever considering that.
