I do prefer it to be a non-two stroke engine which leaves electric.

They now have 4 stroke weed eaters.

I prefer pistons over magnets. I like the power if gives and not having a cord always attached.

With that being said, you can buy a good brand that accepts attachments. So, you buy the weedeater and then get an edger attachment for it.

If you get a 4 stroke. Get you a shoulder strap. They are heavier. Also the 4 stroke has to run almost max throttle, to get the same torque the 2 stroke gets at 1/3 throttle.

My biggest peeve with most trimmers is reloading the trimmer line and the cost of preloaded spools.

After trying several brands, bought an ECHO SRM Series with a Rapid Loader Head.

No tangles and convertible with optional attatchment heads.

Although 2 stroke, very little smoke and fuel efficient with a 5 year consumer warranty.

Definitely worth checking them out. GL

Depending upon the size of your yard and the amount of weed eating and edging you need to do, the rechargeables are getting very competitive. Most have a swivel head so they can be used as a weed eater, or can run vertically as an edger. They are light weight, do not require mixing fuel, or power cords....and if you have a large yard, get a spare battery you can probably do everything without having to wait to recharge a battery to finish.

The best rechargeables run about $130-$160.

Ya, I was looking at a Black'n'Decker 24v rechargable this evening that has the automatic feed, a switch between high & low torque, and comes with 2 batteries. I don't have that big of a yard. I'll probably end up with that one or something similar.

I have looked up the rechargeable weeder/edgers and Black and Decker does not have very good reviews...Mostly about the short battery life.

I think the Worx Lithium unit has the best performance for the price. But don't take my word for it, look it up and make a comparison before you put down you money.

Thanks for the heads up, Richard. I did pick up the Black & Decker 24v. I does have a 30 day trial period. I have to agree about the short battery life because I took it out for a test this afternoon, and put it on the high torque mode. I will have to try it in normal mode only and see how long the battery charge lasts.
