loose door handle

This past weekend I spent alot of time on the highway in my '01. Every now and then I'd hear something outside my window but couldn't see anything flapping in the wind. I think I've narrowed it down to the driver's door handle. It's got a lot of play and wiggle in it. Is this something that can be tightened?

I feel your pain. I recently traded in my 2001 ST for a 2010 ST. I also noticed the loose handles you spoke of on my 2001. However, they never fell off and always worked as expected. All in all, the 2001 ST was one of the finest vehicles I ever owned. If this 2010 works as well as it, I'm a happy camper.

Had the same problem, the handle still worked but I knew it was only a matter of time before it failed. The handle is held on with rivets and tightened with springs, I could'nt fix mine and unfortunately you probably are gonna need a new handle. Take the door panel off and look at it, you might luck out. Door handles are'nt expensive, I got mine from Ford, I painted it myself and had a buddy put it in. You definately want someone with experience here, I watched and its a huge PITA, really tight quarters. If my friend was'nt able to do it I probably would have taken it to the dealer. Good luck.
