here is the equation I can't figure out...

400 miles to a tank, 30 gals, 2.50 per gal, 75 cost @13mpg OK easy......

300 miles to a tank, 15 gals, 2.50 per gal, 37.50 cost.... @20 mpg easy again,

How do I tell how much I would be saving in fuel costs. I know I will save!!!

Larue, The first scenario I believe is costing you about 19 cents a mile, the second one 300 miles @ 37.50 cost is costing you roughly 13 cents a mile. If you drove an average of 15000 miles a year. Scenario one would be roughly 2850.00 a yr. The second one assuming you drove an average of 15000 miles a year, would cost you about 1950.00 a year. Hope i figured tha out right.

Larue, you stated you drove approx. 150 to 200 miles per day in another post. So I'll use 200 miles per day, 5 days a week, or 52,000 miles per year,

52,000 miles divided by 400 miles per tank = 130 refuelings.

130 tanks times $75 per tank = $9,750

52,000 miles divided by 300 miles per tank = 173.33 refuelings

173.33 tanks times $37.50 per tank = $6,450

$9,750 less $6,450 = $3,300 in savings.

I think...

THANK YOU!!!!! Just what I needed to know... man, I wish I could add 2 & 2 :smack: and get 5... math sucks for me THANKS AGAIN

LaRue,

Very easy. If you drive 20 miles on a gallon of gas and that gallon costs you $2.50, you divide the price per gallon by the miles driven to get the cost per mile. If you needed miles per dollar, you go the other way.

So, 2.50/20=0.125 or 12.5 cents a mile, or 20/2.50=8 miles per dollar spent.
