I have to buy a new one but really do not want to deal with that 'used car salesman' mentality that seems to permeate the furniture/mattress industry.

Looking for suggestions & also what to stay away from.

Not sure if they have this were your from but every week we get like an ad/employment type magazine in the mail its called the "Pennysaver" and I found a great mattress (probably $1000) brand new for $340 at some warehouse that sells them in bulk at discount prices. Place looked shady as hell and it was on the outside of DC but the dude was really nice and he didn't try to sell us anything that we didn't want or do a switch-a-roo plus it came with a warrenty and if we suggested anyone too him we get $50. But try the local ads.

You might try www.ikea.com They have stores all over the place and some damn good prices on beds etc. Check out their website, you can also order online or pick-up at the store.

we just bought a beautyrest King size. with a pillow top very comfy.. we bought it from banner mattress.. they have some good deals going on. they wanted 2000 for our and we got it for 1400. but well worth the money.. get a good nite sleep now.. good luck... be careful of the mattress liquidation centers... some of those are refurbished mattress.. not a good deal.. sleeping on a mattress that someone else has slept on. i dont think so... good luck..

One of my companies sells furniture. I can get mattresses, but I mostly sell office furniture. If you find one you'd like, email me the specs, and I'll see what I can get it for at wholesale and see if I can save you some bucks.

Vote #2 for Serta Perfect Sleeper. Real good mattress. Very comfortable and long lasting.

We have bought 3 from a place called Original Mattress Factory. They don't try to shove things down your throat, and just educate you and let you make your own decision. Thier prices are cheaper than anyone else we have looked at too. We bought our King for our Master bedroom, a King for my brother as a housewarming gift, and a Full size for my son.

800 Mattress / mattress.com worked well for me, plenty of good advice and a great transaction.

4 words: Simmons Beautyrest Firm Pillowtop. I modeled mine after sleeping at a Westin hotel for a week in their "Heavenly Bed". It truly is heavenly. If you're going to drop some cash on a good bed, might as well try it out for a night.

If you can, sleep at a Westin or a Sheraton, and if you like the bed, buy it, or find out how to configure a similar setup. They will sell it to you, it's pricey, but worth it.

IMO, the pillows, duvet/duvet cover, and down blanket are what really add to the perfect sleep. It's a whole package sort of thing, not just the mattress that does it for you.

Well I bought a Serta Posturpedic pillow top Embassy Row plush in May of 06. Paid $1500 for the set. At first it was great but as the year went on I had more and more back pain everyday especially in the morning. Finally sucked it up and a year later in May of 07 I plopped $1700 on a Simmons Beautyrest BLACK firm and low and behold I love it... It is like a rock but it works for me and my wife.... So just be sure to know what you like as far a firmness goes and take you back into consideration!
