I've heard of this happening to other people, first time for me. Been a long hot summer and used the A/C a lot. Just this week I get a strong mildew smell from the vents when I first start it. After a few minutes it goes away. I've heard that you can spray some stuff into the cabin air intake but I've never tried this or know what to get or if it's something you have to go to a dealer for.

Anybody else ever deal with this?

Thanks in advance.

johnny,

i read in an article about that problem. forgot where from.

it mentioned clogged cowl drain lines as a major cause.

imo, a spray is a temp coverup, but a shot disenfectent cant hurt.

Lysol or ozium in the intake under the glove box and the very front of the windshield works( not the defroster vents)

also make sure the condenser drain is open.

They make a foam spray. you find a place to spray it in their. Let it sit until the foam turns liquid. make sure the drain is open.

Check with pat goss motor week site. that is where I saw it.

This has been discussed many times. One way to prevent this is to not use the recirculation part of the ac or if you do, switch it to fresh air for at least 5 minutes before shutting down.

Talked to my mechanic bud today, he suggested spraying Lysol into the air intake while it's on high, then shut it off, spray in a little more and let it sit overnight. I'll make sure it's dripping out of the bottom.

The problem seemed to start when the weather cooled down a little and I stopped using the recirc on the A/C.
