mountaineer ac problems

My wife has a 97 mountaineer and i have been trying to figure out this problem for months. It seems like the hot and cold switch does not work the heat coms out good but on cold days if you turn it on panel and the other knob cold it blows out hot air. Then your turn ac on its a little cooler but not how it should be. i put a new switch in but still the same. any ideas?????

Do some searching about the "blend door". It was a common problem on the 2nd Gen Explorer and Mountaineers, and I think it might be your issue. There are several options for repairing it, ranging from taking apart the entire dash, to much simpler workarounds.
