After 5500 miles on my Goodyear Fortera Silent Armors, I've noticed a significant drop in MPGs. With the Wrangler RT/S's I was averaging 16-17. With the Forteras I'm down to about 14-15. With this decrease in mileage, suddenly the Wranglers aren't looking so bad afterall.

The drop may be a result of slightly less driving on the freeway and use of stock tune. Otherwise my driving has been routine. I will continue to monitor mileage now that I'm back on XCal performance tune by WFoy (yes, Wayne!). I've also cleaned my Volant filter but noticed no improvement on this tank (Volant claims the filter performs better after some mileage but I decided to clean it just in case). It will be several tanks until I get a good average, but I'll have my fingers crossed for increased mileage.

On another note, at first I thought the Forteras were much quieter than the Wranglers but turns out the installers underinflated them. After I upped the psi to 32/35, I haven't noticed a significant drop in cabin noise. Then again the Trac is inherently noisy.

The Forteras do look and feel great on the road and I'm looking forward to them living up to the rave reviews on wet weather performance.

I'm just wondering if any of you Fortera owners noticed any mpg drop compared to the Wrangler RT/S's.

Also don't forget that the new tires are taller, May it only be 1-2 inch of tread, that can make a difference...

Flip,

I've had the Fortera S/A's for about five months now, and I haven't noticed any drop in mpg. The only time I've noticed a drop in mpg, is after I moved back to IL. My hometown has a gas station that sells E-85, and I've been pretty much running just E-85 in my ST since July. With that, I did notice a drop in mpg, but I expected it. I've also noticed a little more power, resulting from E-85's higher octane rating.

As for the Fortera S/A's, I think they're much more quiet than the OEM Wrangler RT/S. Maybe it's because mine were badly cupped, and that made them noisier. I know the Forteras certainly ride and handle better. As far as I'm concerned, they were money well spent. I originally couldn't decide between the Silent Armors or the Fortera Triple Tread.

Generally speaking a softer tire = less mpg. You might see an increase in mpg after the tread wears down a little. I dileberatly chose the Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza for its longer tread life because if I am going to spend that kind of money on a tire I want is to last as long as possible. BTW, I just looked at The Tire Rack and the Goodyear Fortera Triple Tread has the highest rating in the Light Truck / SUV group, but has the lowest tread life of the top three. :)

I put the Dueler H/L's on my truck at 50,000 miles. I now have 122,500 miles and there is still a bunch of thread on them. I will probably get 90,000 miles on that set. I do mainly highway driving in Florida. I like those tires so much, I put the H/L Alenza's on my wife's Volvo XC 90 SUV.

Those Goodyear Fortera Silent Armour tires are heavy - about 3 pounds per tire heavier than the Wrangler RT/S. That will make a difference in mileage.

I am on my second tank of gas after putting 4 new TOYO's on my ST. I do see a bit of a drop

also in the MPG. I hope it is only temporary.:(
