I know this has nothing to do with Sport Tracs, but my Boxer had puppies today and I am clueless on what to do? Anyone on here have a dog that has had puppies? any helpful hints?

Thanks

Andrew

Send me one.... That would help.

Well, at first not much. The mom will do virtually everything. If you see on of then is struggling then you need to do something about it. Either help it find the nipple or get it to the vet if it is in dire straights.

I would call you vet as they will have great advice and be able to give you a time table on when to do what.

My wife has a lot of experiance with this. We have had several litters here in our kitchen!!!! I kind of let her be the midwife and do all of her "motherly duties". The mother of the pups will do almost all of what is needed. She will clean up after the pups. You need to move her and the pups to a place where they can keep warm. We always put a heat lamp over them to keep the pups warm. The main thing to watch for is if one of them is not doing well. If one is left off from the rest, that is a bad sign and you need to take action. Watch them like a hawk the first couple of days/nights.

no pics yet i'll take some in the morning when I get off work. I would have my wife take them but she does not know how to upload them on the computer. thanks for all the advice.

I know this is a little late, but one of the tings to do is put the puppies on a hot water bottle with warm water in it. Also, between the birth of each pup, make sure the pup nurses on the mother. That will stimulate the mother to produce the hormone to deliver the next pup. Make sure the nose is cleaned off or the pup can drown.

Just got off the phone with my wife and she said that there were 5 puppies but 2 died. My wife is alittle upset. but the rest of the puppies are doing fine.

She had 6 total. All fawn color with white on chest and some white on feet. Did not have time to get any pics. I'll try to take some when I wake up tomorrow afternoon. I am working 7pm-7am this weekend so I dont have to much time to do anything.
