Anyone have any experience disputing transactions with Pay Pal? I had several transactions today from out of the country for Skype services.

I filed the disputes and changed my password, etc.

If foreigners want us to start liking us more, they need to quit scamming our accounts.:fire:

Gavin, regarding "start liking us more", ... I'm sure that many foreigners love us, or lax internet security, and or inability to prosecute them for their electronic crimes.

I think that PayPal has gotten a lot better at removing fraudulent charges....My concern is that the scammers may have access to your bank account, and credit card info..

Better discuss that with PayPal and you may need to change your bank account and possibly credit card/s if you used them on PayPal. I would also question PayPal as to how these scammers could have gotten in your account...perhaps you fell for some socially engineered email?

My understanding is, if you buy something online with your PayPal account, the sell never see's your credit card info...they only know that you paid PayPal by credit card but no other info. Also, PayPal should be able to find out from Skype who used your PayPal account?

I can see the convience of pay pal. I wont use it. Family members have had problems.

I buy something from a person on here. I send a usps mo. I buy online I have one card for that, with a small limit.

I dont bank online either...

PayPal security key. It works with eBay and PayPal. Of course, a determined scammer might be able to access your number algorithm, but it's highly unlikely.

EDIT: Looks like they raised the price of them. When I got mine, it was $5. Now $30. :soap:

Adam, ,how is that device linked to pay pal? Does it have a revolving # each time you use it? I dont have a smart phone and the one I have, text is turned off.

Eddie,

The security key does not have any real network link link to paypal. It is programmed with an algorithm that generates a new security code # probably based on a customer ID number and the date. That means everytime you press the button you will get a new code # for that day. After midnight the code will calculate a new code# for the next day. No matter how many times you press the button that day, the code# will remain the same.

When you sign in to paypal and enter your User-ID and password, it will look up your account and get your Customer ID number and the current date and uses the same algorithm that is programmed into the Security Key, so the security key should display the same code# as the computer at PayPal did. So if you enter the Code# from the security key correctly, it will match the PayPal Code# and it completes your loggin.

I have designed serveral similar security systems both in the Military and as a civilian software designer. Works great to allow temporary access for only a single day.

Just to clarify, PayPal's key changes every minute or two. However, I do not look forward to when mine needs a new battery and I have to pony up $30 for a replacement.

The type of security code generator has been used for online security for close to 20 years now. It is secure...no reason not to invest if you use Paypal and have some exposure (a linked debit account, etc).

Adam,

If the code changes every few minutes, then they are just using the Date and Time in the algorithm...which means that you probably have a limited amount of time to press the button, get your key code# and enter it on your computer screen before that Key code# expires.

the only safe way to use paypal is to link it to a credit card only. Do not give paypal your checking account under any circumstances! Paypal is not a bank but when you give them your bank number they have the ability to withdraw money from your account to settle disputes even without your approval.

If you have linked your checking account to paypal, remove it asap! Credit card only, works just fine.

Mike,

You are correct for most personal PayPal accounts. However, If you have a Premier account PayPal requires a bank account and a back-up credit card. Premier accounts allow you to receive unlimited payment amounts if you are using your PayPal account to receive payments for a business.

When I started my LeverLift Company, I had to open a Premier account or else I would have been limited to only receiving a maximum of $250 in payments to per month....which would not be much of a business.
