I have a 2004 Sport Trac. I just got the Kenwood DNX7100 with the Bluetooth Module, and I'm trying to install it myself. The only thing I am stuck on is how to route the little GPS Antenna, and also the little Mic for the handsfree. I don't think this GPS antenna is supposed to be mounted outside (on the roof), so I'm trying to get it on the dash. I have the center trim out and trying to figure out how to get the cable from top of the dash to behind the radio. I can't find a repair manual for the sport trac, so I'm not sure how to take the dash apart  .

I'm also trying to run the mic from up near the driver sunvisor to the back of the radio... not sure where to start there either  .

I'm hoping someone can give me some tips or point me to a resource that will help.

Thanks,

Robert

The antenna goes outside, but it'll kinda work on the dash. Pull up the black piece at the front of the dash for wire routing. As for the mic, the top left corner is a bad location, but if you're hellbent on it, run the wire down the A pillar.

I have my Bluetooth mic. run up the A-piller. and mounted near the Rear veiw mirror. (Less wind noise if the window is open.)

And the Antenna is on the dash in front of the driver.

and there are a lot of openings between that point and the Radio.

Mine is run with the Bluetooth wire to the A-piller then splits off.

Hope this helps.

I was wondering about that black piece in the front of the dash. I'll try pulling that up when I get home.

Sal, I like your idea of installing the mic closer to the rearview mirror. I'm gonna have to try that.

So I'm assuming if I remove the two bolts holding the handle, the A-piller should just pull off. Then I can run the wire up and across the lining above to a good spot.

Thanks for the advice, I'll try it this evening.

The mic for my phone is mounted on the plastic piece that covers the wires to the mirror.

Well I ran all the wires up the drivers side.. No handle..

but either will work..

I actually have the mic mounted to the Overhead console right above the Mirror.

The GPS antenna will work inside, but outside (especially on the roof) is best. The signal can be blocked inside, plus I've heard window tinting can interfere with the signal, as well.

I ran my GPS antenna out the top of the third brake light, onto the roof. It won't leak if you notch the brake light trim around the antenna wire, and seal it with silicone.

Do you have any pics of installing or the final installation of the DNX7100? I am wanting to do the same thing, just wanting to know what it looks like.

Thank you,

Ken

EricP, what is that black square w/the circle in the middle that is just to the right of the third brake light? If you tell me it's a rear view camera then i'm gonna die! (not really, but my bottom lip will start dragging the ground) I'm actually hoping that it is.......that would probably work better than my current camera location.

Sal, mine is currently the same place that yours is, except that it's centered and it's a Pioneer:) My camera looks directly over the top of the hitch ball when I have the draw bar in the receiver hitch. It's perfect for hooking the trailer, but when I am not towing a trailer I get a horrible glare from the vehicles headlights behind me. Also, since it's on the same plane as the vehicles behind you, you don't get an accurate perspective of their distance behind you. I'll post pics of my location this evening when I get home.....

Thanks for all the great advice. I decided to attach the mic to the over head console, and ran the cable down the pillar with the handle and under the carpet to the behind the radio.

I unscrewed the third brake light and pulled of some trim and saw how easy it would be to route the GPS antenna from outside. So that worked out pretty well.

Here is a picture of the unit. I am still working on the trim to go around it... it's a tight fit, especially since this face moves at different angles.

Notice the seat warmer indicators on the HVAC controls? Thanks to Rich's Project guide!

I'll finish the Nav install this weekend and post a completed picture.

Looks great.

If you look in my Library. there is a few pics of what I had to trim of the Radio Bezel to make mine fit.

here is just one.

Hope everything works out

The mic works best in the center, but you might want to do what I did. I think it looks a little more "factory."

Lil Red,

It's a rear view camera. I wanted a vantage point that would allow me to keep an eye on my cargo area, as well as behind me. The tailgate still blocks the view of the area close to the rear bumper, though. This camera has a very wide field of view, but the thickness of the brake light lens cuts that down quite a bit, unfortunately.

I can give you more details on the installation if you decide that's where you want to mount one.

Here are pics of the completed install. They are from my phone so quality may not be the Best. Thanks for all the input guys. Next project... replacement Headrest monitors! :D
