Please help me ASAP

I for some reason can't post pics here so i'll put a link

I removed my rear differencial cover and saw that the gears are ok (THANK GOD) but then i started to look and found the top of 5 bolts that were broken off. I think that maybe when the stealer replaced the rear end they torque the bolts too much

Question is how can i fix it?

Also how many bolts are there in total? I only lifted the truck from one side so i couldn't turn the gears to give it a visual check.

And also is the truck driveable like this until i can fix it?

you need to pull the axles and the bearing caps (making note of which side and what is top and bottom) pull the whole carrier out (again make note of shims, every thing has to go in the exact same way it came out!) take the ring gear off and you should be able to get the broken bolts out with some vice grips or something, then replace all the bolts on the carrier, obviously the dealer reused the old ones

First thing, I'd bitch at the dealer. If that doesn't work then there is a tool called an EZ-Out that should work. Only problem is that if the EZ Out breaks then you're really in deep doo-doo.

From your write-up, I can't determine why you pulled the diff. cover. If you had been to the dealer for differential service and subsequently heard or felt something out of the ordinary, you should have taken it directly back to the dealer. Now, the dealer will speculate that you broke off the bolts and all you can claim is that you did not.

Contact the dealer, plead your case and hope for the best.

When you get done, if it looks like this you have that rear end looking good.

That's all I've got to say about that. (Gump)

to clear things up the rear end was replaced 28,000 miles ago and at the time it was covered under the extended warranty.

Now its been 2yrs and i'm out of warranty, but oh i will go and bitch at the STEALERSHIP.

They will hear me.

I want to thank everyone here

Guys are amazing

Oh Ironbar, i found the bolt heads on the bottom of the differencial

and

Yardsale- you can see in the first pic why i removed it. A hole was created and all of the oil leaked out. At the time i didn't know what it was, know i obviously know it was a head of a bolt that went flying and hit the cover

Another question

can i demand the dealer to replace it since they refused to use new bolts?

The bolts you are referring to do NOT bottom out. This is a good thing as in most cases, they will almost always turn out with very little effort as they do not seize up with all of the oil in there.

I have found that a good sharp prick punch does the trick very well.

Simply hit the stud on an angle using the punch in such a way that it unscrews the stud.

Sounds like the torque to yield bolts were defective... , the ring heated up, Flexed and snapped the bolts...

I personally would rebuild the whole thing....

Be thankfull it didnt look like this !!!!!

Coastiejoe- thanks for the tip of using punch.

Todd- Yes i am very thankful. I seriously thought i was going to have to put 900+ for a new rear end. I had already started to look for a G80 locker and the prices weren't attractive at all:unsure:

Holy KRAP!

I'm amazed the gears look that good! You need to pull it apart and check the pinion, etc.

I doubt that stealer will do anything to help- but I guess it doesn't hurt to try.

I'd get another rear axle from Coastie and just change 'er out.

Yea i was amazed also!

I'm justy going to replace the bolts. I'm selling the truck anyway. I'll just let the dealer know about what happened
