This an issue with my brother. Has to do with a wireless network. Im not famuliar with.

The school furnished my nefhew a netbook for this year, 7th grade. He picked up a virus on the net book. I told my nefhew not to go to any web sites or type anything an social networks. That the school will get him in trouble for. I suspected the school had a keyloger on it. when the school looked at it. They found he had been visiting XXX sites and other issues.

Now for the Question.? My nefhew was using the wireless portion of the AT&T modem. My brother and his wife are hard wired. With a cat5e to the same modem. There computer started messing up at the same time as my nefhews.

Can what The virus my nefhew picked up.? Bypass the the hardwired computer firewall and virus protection. since they were using the same modem.

I know my brothers computer security is up to date. I set it up to be automatic. Norton Internet security. They had to use the cat5 hardwire. they had problems with wireless. My nefhew didnt have wirless problems. Not sure of the security on his netbook.

Just odd that both computers became unusable the same time.

Eddie,

I can't say for certain that your brother and his wife caught the same virus, but if nephew's netbook did not have any virus or security protection, it is easily possible for the virus to migrate over to the other computers on the network.

Be sure that everyone has the latest anti-virus updates and that they run scans on all PC's. Firewalls work, but not if someone behind the firewall lets them in like your nephew may have done....he may have replied "yes" to download a video viewer on one of those sights and it installed the virus.
