Need to back-up a game, need help.

I am trying to back-up a game. I own the game, but I want to keep the original at home and put a copy in my laptop bag. The game only cost me $3.99 at Biglots and I tried to buy another one, but that was the only one/last one they had.



From what I gather, it is copy protected by SecuRom. (the latest version). Right now, I am trying Blind Copy to see if that will work. CloneCD did not work.



Any ideas what to try if this doesn't work?



Just to put the nay sayers at ease. I own the original CD. I am not giving a copy to a friend, neighbor, workmate, or anyone else. I just want a copy to put in my laptop bag to play when I am away from home. IMO, this should fall under "Fair Use".

Caymen try CD Copy World for all the latest info on making backups. They also have a database of games and programs that list the particular protection for the program and the best ways to work arround it. Many that I have done require the use of a modifyed .exe file. I use a program called clone CD but it sometimes takes a coupple of tryes with diffrent options selected to get it right. Good luck it isnt as easy as the old days anymore.

You should be able to use an emulator program called daemon tools to run the backup copy of this game. Below is the download link. Let me know if it works.

gamecopyworld did not have anything. Unfortunatly, that website sucks. Too many pop-ups. it is really a drag.

You may also want to try a "virtual cd rom". With this you drag and drop the entire contents of the game cd onto your hard drive and the "virtual cd rom" fools the computer into thinking you are playing the game from your cd rom player.

Instead of trying to make a copy of the CD, look for a "hack" that makes it so the CD is not checked for at runtime. These are commonly called "No CD" hacks, as they hack/crack the installed image of the game on your system such that it DOESN'T look for the key CD 1 in the CDROM drive when the game runs, bypassing the annoying "Insert CD..." message.



That way you install the game, install the NO CD hack, and then just play the game without the CD.



Try a google search against the name of the game, along with the word: NOCD

Hmmm, I like that DameonTools program. I use Alcohol 120% on my PC at home, but never got it to work right on my laptop. Now I can have the Ford Service Manuals that I downloaded on my laptop without needing the CDs.



I actually got to use the manuals when my friend installed new headlights in his '92 Mustang. He said they rattled around and just didn't fit right. Brought up the manuals, and figured out that he didn't quite install them right, so I fixed them, and a month later they're still workin good for him.

BTW, I mentioned "Peer Guardian 2" from Phoenix Labs (do a web search, you will find it), as it's free, and it provides and interesting level of protection. It is an IP address blocker that uses a hosted dictionary of website names/addresses of well known universities, government agencies, and spyware/maleware hosting companies and blocks your PC from accessing those sites and addresses. This means that if there is a link to a banner ad or some other link that if visited might well install spyware on your machine, or might be communicated with by spyware already on your machine, it blocks that action.



It puts an icon in your tray that flashes whenever an address is blocked, and you can then take actions to allow that site for 15 minutes (or longer), or even permanantly.



If any of you are using BitTorrent then I suggest downloading it as it can keep organizations from gathering evidence on you.
