Have any of you compared Blockbuster's online service with Netflix? On the surface, they have the same price. Blockbuster also gives you a certificate for one free movie in-store each week--a nice feature if you're wanting some specific movie some night and don't want to wait for it to be mailed to you. But I really don't know how they compare in regards to the size of their catalogs, or their customer service. Any thoughts? Have any of you tried both, to determine if one is better than the other?

I like NOT having to go out, and Netflix's East-coast distribution center is 15 miles from my house in Pheonixville, PA, so I often get 3 to 5 day turn-arounds (send out Monday AM, next one back by Friday at the latest). Slow delivery was a complaint I had of Netflix a few years back when they first got started, as they were just distributing from the West coast.

Netflix catalog size is HUGE.

I have not tried Netflix but have used Blockbuster for about a year now and have really enjoyed it. They get the movies out to you really fast (there was a class action suit against Netflix over this) and the in-store coupon is convenient. But be sure you understand the coupon before you choose your plan. The coupons that you receive weekly are only good for 1 week rentals(excludes new releases), the plans that provide two coupons per month allow you to use the coupon for ANY video or game (including new releases). I can't say anything for or against Netflix but I can and would recomend Blockbuster.

I love net flix i live in dallas and i send a disk back on monday and get one back on wen. the only problem i have had is recieving cracked disks, they apologized and gave me a free month. From whatt i hear are killing blockbuster.

we've had netflix for over a year. love it... 2 day turn around for us here. get 1 monday, watch it, send it tues early am and get another wed.... they are only 30 miles away......:D

I vote for Netflix. Two day turn around.

I used to go to the Blockbuster store, for years, until they sent me a postcard telling me they were charging my account for a movie I knew I returned (I have never brought a movie back late, ever). The manager was rude about it, even after she confirmed it had been rented twice since I returned it. I joined Netflix, and have never looked back.

I've been debating on this topic for a while but I'm going to finally try netflix. On all advertisements they include the price AND any applicable taxes. Is anyone getting charged taxes and what's the amount?

I heard Netflix was suing Blockbuster about this. I heard it from a guy I work with so it may not be true.

I had netflix for awhile, but the turn around began to get kinda slow so I decided to go with GamesNFlix. They were faster but i got alot of cracked games and disc. So i eventually left them alone as well.

I have used Blockbuster, Intelliflix, and Netflix and Netflix is definitely the best. Yes they do "throttle" you if you rent too many but they are still the fastest, and have the best selection. You can also add movie to your queue that aren't in theaters yet.

Blockbuster is nice because they give you the 4 free in store rentals a month but shipping speed kills the deal. Go with Netflix.

I just recently completed a comparison of the two. I found that while Blockbuster now has a greater selection than it did when I used them a while back, Netflix still has a greater selection than theirs. Netflix also beat Blockbuster by three days on average in getting movies to me. I get an email from Netflix in a couple of days, occasionally three, after mailing in a movie, telling me that they have it and that they have just mailed my next one. It took much longer for Blockbuster to check in my movie. I don't think the mail delivers more slowly to and for them; I think Blockbuster lets the returns lie around 2-3 days before they check them in. When I cancelled Blockbuster for Netflix, I told them about my comparison and why I was going with Netflix all the way.

One complaint I submitted to both is that they need to beef up their packaging. I have gotten some broken disks. Plus, more and more often, they arrive in a bent and/or torn up envelope, although the disk has somehow managed to stay intact. It's a bummer to plan to watch a movie at a certain time and then have the disk have a crack in it.

Been a Netflix subscriber for a couple of years. We've been very happy. Service quality and speed are excellent, and I don't miss going to the local Blockbuster store at all. Netflix offers great value for the price.

As for Blockbuster.com...can't say. I don't think Blockbuster is going to survive as a company. Too much debt, too much decline of in-store business. They dismissed Netflix for too long, and now Netflix is tearing their heart out. And Blockbuster management is still the same team that dismissed Netflix years ago. From a business perspective, they are in the Bermuda Triangle. No easy way out.

I have used both. I had Blockbuster first, the price was pretty good, but they were just too slow for me. Often it took 7 days total time from the time I sent a movie and when I got the next in que. Netflix often can get me my next movie in 3-4 days total time. I rent 4 movies a month minimum, so for $10 this is still a very good deal. Hell, just the fact that I don't have to go to the video store and stand in line makes it a great deal for me.

I've used both. I had bad experiences with Blockbuster and quit to go with Netflix. I've been using Netflix now for almost 2 years and it is stellar. Like others said, my turnaround is 3 days. I mail them out on Monday, Netflix gets them on Tuesday, by Wednesday I have new disks.

They do throttle you if you rent too many new releases per month and return them too fast. I have found a workaround for that....I upped my subscription to 5 disks instead of 3. Then I just asked for 2 documentary titles and kept them for a month. I was able to turnover the other 3 disks much faster and had no problem getting all of the new releases. I have since dropped down to the 3 disk plan again, though, so can't say for sure if the trick still works.

Another thing you can do that might speed up turnaround times: when you put the disk back into the Netflix envelope to send it back, most people put it right-side up. That's fine, but if you look at the front of the Netflix return envelope, there is a little window there. If you flip the disk around so that the barcode on the inner disk envelope is showing through the window on the outer envelope, your return can be processed by a machine instead of a person.

I have block buster and am locked into a contract that protects me from the price increase that is coming up. I pay $13.99 a month, get two free rentals from the local Block Buster as well as neat coupons for popcorn and used DVD's.

The turn around time is excellent with a rare case of it being 4 days.

I live 60 miles east of Cleveland and they have a distribution center their. If I drop the DVD in the mail box in Cleveland as I am there 5 days a week they literally get it the same day. Send me an e-mail saying so. And ship out the next movie the same day in may cases.

Hard to beat the service...
