So the 2001 (209,000 miles) has the need for a new exhaust, cat back. Need some help, who has replaced the exhaust in their driveway, not at Midas, what did you use and what was the source.

Not looking for max HP or The best sound. Best system and can be done in a driveway. 30 years on cars, I'm not a rookie.

Hit me with your best shot. thanks

I bought a walker system from Pep boys for about $150.00 from the cat back. The catalog listed it for the sport trac, but in reality was for an Exploder Sport, as the cat to muffler pipe was too short. I ended up getting the exhaust pie for a regular explorer and trimmed to fit. the other issue is the pipe diameter, which was smaller than stock at 2" dia. the exit is under the bumper, not out to the side. other than these issues it worked OK, and my pocketbook was happy.

I've bought compete systems from the muffler shop before and installed them at home, too.

Magnaflow and Heartthrob are the only bolt on systems I'm aware of made specifically for the 2001-05 ST. MF seems to be the preferred choice here but it's $$$.

I did the Gibson in the driveway. Took about 2 hours. I cut the bolts at the joint and installed new stainless bolts with springs. I also didn't like how far the tip stuck out and trimmed that a bit. I would do the Gibson again if I had to.

Oops, forgot about Gibson. Thanks.
