I know, another off-topic question that pertains to a vehicle not associated with the site. Just wanted to throw it out there to see what the minds here can come up with.

My father owns a 2006 Nissan Altima. The problem he has though is the rear suspention is very weak. My mother has MS and has a motorized cart to get around when shopping. My dad has had a electrical lift put into the trunk and it has some weight to it. The rear end sags down. Not to bad, but when the cart is in there, it sags pretty bad. The cart and lift may total 150 pounds. (at the most) Way less than it should be for this thing to set that way.

I have looked all over and can't find anything to help put some extra load handling back there to keep it from doing this. We have put those "coil extenders" back there and I got maybe an inch lift with them and it still rides nice. (not harsh) I have thought about air shocks, but nobody lists the Altima. Is there a cross-over to another vehicle that may help find what I need. Such as heavy duty rear coil springs (all I find are the lowering ones), coil-over shocks (find the same as the coils), etc?

Thanks.;)

The altima uses struts, so you may not get air shocks..

You install rubber spacers under the springs=, which would require removing the rear struts.

You could also try a truck spring shop, they may be able to make you a set of heavy duty coils..

I used Roadmaster Active Suspension add-on springs on a 97 Explorer to help in towing and roll. I checked their site and they don't have an app for the Altima, but maybe a call is worth it?

Anyway, they were a breeze to put on an really helped the attitude and handling, including towing.

Ken, I found something similar to that in JCWhitney. They are springs that mount on the rear area and have a coil on the top that the floor of the trunk sits on. It's supposed to add 1000 lbs extra handling. (not that I'd put 1000lbs in the trunk) I'm going to see if I have a place to mount them back there and if so, give them a shot.;)
