I took my chrome wheels off for the winter and put the stock wheels and tires back on last week. I didn't realize how crappy the crapyears are compared to Falken tires I have for my chrome wheels. They are pretty bad on wet pavement. What's everyone using for better traction in the snowy parts of the country? BTW, just turned 15k miles, not many for an 04 ST. Gotta make the warr. run out on time instead of miles. LOL

Plain Bridgestone Dueler A/T's (not REVO's) are a good all-around tire for winter. REVO's are better but cost more. If you just want something decent but not real expensive for winter, try Wild Country's or Wild Spirits if they have them where you live.

I run these on my van:

I had these on my Ranger, good all-purpose tire similar to a REVO:

There is a dealer locator on the site.

I have Bridgestone Dueler A/T's (not Revo's) on my rig for travelling between Sacramento & Lake Tahoe in the mountains, especially in winter.

If you only use the stock tires for winter, get some winter tires. If you plan on running the tires in the summer too, then find something more all season.

I agree with Tom,

If you are only using them in the Winter, get some dedicated winter tires. Especially in CT. Let someone recycle those "good"years into playground mulch!

Gary- My Trac just turned over 20k, and the dealership is putting on my new chrome Adrenalin wheel as I type. Apparently when they did my balance and rotate a couple of Saturdays ago, the tech was careless and took a chunk out of one of my wheels. I was very happy they admitted it though, before I:D got home and found it myself and had to rip someones head off.. LOL Yes the Goodyears suck and I'm looking into either T/A KO's or Duelers A/T for my ST right now. -Heather

I am still running the crapyears that came on my '04 and they have 14K miles. I may get some better all-weather now just to run until next spring.

The question is do I really need dedicated snows here in PA. Last year was a harsher winter with snow and ice that lasted weeks at a time. But, usually around here we get some snow and its gone in a couple of days.

That's not to say though that better tires wouldn't help when we do get that 4, 5, 8, 12, 30" snowstorm, which we do get several times each season.

I put the Michelin Cross Terrain SUV tires on my wife's Liberty last weekend. They replaced the OEM Goodyear Wrangler SR-A tires that had 55,000 miles on them (and still had 10/32" of tread remaining). The Michelins are WAY SUPERIOR to the GoodCrap tires!!! Her Liberty is SO MUCH QUIETER now, and it has no vibration. I can't wait for snow, because the GoodCraps were treacherous in snow and ice. Seriously-- in 4WD with LS in the rear axle, her liberty would not go where my Sport Trac would in 2WD. It was scary in bad weather.

GoodCraps are only good for not wearing out. Otherwise, they suck.

True, Gavin. My bump bump bump BadYears are still on my '02 with 42k on them. They're terrible on wet roads. I'll be replacing them with some All Season tires before next summer. I had Michelins on my Ranger, they were real good tires.

I dunno, the RT/S's that came on my '02 Ranger were almost bald at 19,000 miles or at least useless in snow and rain. Rotated and balanced every 5000 and air checked weekly. I'd say they suck in general.

Just got a set of 4 Bridgestone Dueler HL P255/70R16 D683 OWL tires for $340.00 delivered off ebay, hope they are worth it. Thanks everyone.

Heather, glad you got your baby fixed:).

Gary,

I hope the tread's aggressive enough for you for winter use only. The H/L's are less aggressive than the A/T's. That's why I didn't buy Revos, because the tread wasn't aggressive enough. The Revos were more for highway use than the regular A/T's were.
