DS came home from work at 0530 this morning and says "Dad, we have water bubbling out of the driveway" ......AAAAHHHHHHH! Went out, shut off the meter (it's in the driveway, where the water is coming from) but I still have some water coming out.... guess the shut offs on the meter dont hold good. Waiting on the plumber to call back now.....

Wondered why the water bill seemed so high last month

If it's under the driveway I would have to think the leak is before your meter, therefore you aren't paying for the leaked water.

Unless of course, you have another building you are running water to from the main.

I hope it doesn't cost you too much to fix. Has there been any work done nearby in your neigborhood? It seems weird that an undisturbed pipe would break like that.

Two years ago I had to replace my water pipe from the meter to the house. It was 50 yrs old. My meter is in the front yard, 25 feet from the house. Plumbers wanted $685. I hired one of my nieghbors that does odd jobs, to do the digging. Cost me $300, parts included.

You might think about getting some day laborers and DIY....:D

If your city code will let you run pvc. Be sure to place a brick or a block under each junction, and buy some bags of sand to pour around the pvc, before throwing the dirt back in. Will keep the pipe stable and keep from breaking the fittings as the dirt settles...

Plumber came and left, it was a failed piece of Quest (sp) pipe (imagine that with all the lawsuits), 300.00 and gone. It was AFTER the meter, but just barely (10") The meter is installed in the driveway and all pipe is underneath the cement. My neighbor had to replace his completely last year, he just tunnelled under the driveway to the meter (2-3') and then ran the new pipe in the lawn vice under the cement.

City came out and looked to make sure the meter was secured properly, told me to call if my bill is more than 20 pct higher..... by my accounting from the last bill to now, we have tripled the water this month and it is only half way through the cycle...... guess I'll be calling them.

:lol:Hey! Those are the exact same seniments LaRue has for our son....mostly the last one.:p
