Oil Dipstick

What is the difference in volume between the 2 indicating dots on the dipstick? Is it half a quart?

I believe your not supposed to use the dots, The indication area is the cross hatched area and that is 1 quart...

Don't use the dots! I had the oil changed in my truck and the tech used the dots and put 6 quarts in. I made him drain it and put in the standard 5 quarts. Like Todd says, use the hatched area, not the dots.
