I saw the movie with my two sons and a friend last night at the midnight showing.

I was very skeptical of this latest installment of the John McClain saga, mostly because I thought the third movie was subpar and the fact that this new movie was the first in the series to have a PG-13 rating instead of an R rating.

Well, my concerns were unfounded.

The movie was fantastic, especially if you like non-stop action, over-the-top chase scenes, lots of explosions, and the "good guy" winning against all odds.

It took a little to get used to the "I'm a Mac" guy as John's sidekick, but it worked. I won't spoil the movie by giving away plot details.

If you want a good, rip-roaring action movie to officially start the summer, grap the popcorn and go see this one.

I give it 4 out of 5 stars.

The Mac guy is everywhere now... Dodgeball was the first place I remember seeing him, and then he (Justin Long) was in Accepted, and now this.. I was skepetical. I was watching the news (Teh Daily show..the only place to get the true news lol) and Bruce Willis was on there. Jon Stewart asked him if there was a new catch line in this movie (Yippie-Kai-Yay MFer...), and he said the Justin Long came up with Yabba Dabba Doo MFer... Was that in there?? I'll see this movie, but with a 4 year old, the last movie we wet thto the theater and saw was Cars. I'll add it to my Queue on Netflix and get to it eventually....

Nah, Yabba Dabba Doo wasn't in there, nor any f-bombs...but that didn't hurt the movie. There was enough other "colorful" language to push the limits of the PG-13 rating. Given all that the characters go through in the movie one wouldn't expect lines like: "Oh, gee whiz I wish they would stop shooting at us!"

Can't wait to see it. Yippee Kayay MF was in the preview I saw. I'll feel gyped if it's not in the movie.

I didn't say Yippee Kayay wasn't in the film, I just said no f-bombs or variants (like MF).

Plus, I doubt you heard Yippee Kayay MF in a trailer...those are rated for all audiences.

I go to a movie house that serves alcohol and doesn't allow kids. Alamo Drafthouse. Best movie theater on the planet.

TomT, again, I know the industry pretty well (I work in it), have never seen trailers other than those rated for all audiences...meaning no profanity. Maybe 20th Century put out a higher rated trailer for the film, one that included words not in the film...it's just unlikely that's all...more likely you thought you heard something you actually didn't (no disrespect meant).

He said it. I saw the same trailer twice. Everyone in the theater cheered when we heard those immortal words. More then likely they cut it out of the movie to get a PG13 rating and it will show up on the un-cut DVD. I have seen a lot of un-cut or directors cut DVD's come out later that included language and scenes initially taken out of the theatrical release. But like you originally posted, I don't know why they wanted a PG13 rating just for this one. They are only pissing off their original fans. All about money I guess. I'll still go see it in the theater though. Bruce Willis is the man!

TJR, I've seen plenty of trailers for movies that aren't rated for all audiences. When that screen right before the trailer (telling the movie's rating) appears, trailers that are rated for all audiences have a green background. Those that aren't have a red one.

And I see stuff all the time in trailers that doesn't end up in the movie. Immediately after watching a movie on DVD, go to the extra features and watch the theatrical trailer(s). More often than not, you'll see something in them (be it a scene, words, a song, sometimes even a character) that didn't make the final movie cut.

The reason for a PG-13 rating is wider appeal. PG-13 movies on average make more money than R rating.

I would like to see that trailer. If you find it on Youtube or elsewhere I would love to see it. I've never seen a trailer with profanity it in...not a trailer approved by the MPAA for general audiences anyway.

TJR

TJR, I to have seen trailers with an "R" rating. Not much is cut out of them. Most trailers are geared for all audiences, so they can be shown at just about any movie. Every once in awhile at an "R" rated movie, you may see an "R" rated trailer. Seldomn but does happen.;)

TJR. It's funny that you said that. I know exactly what you mean. Every time I go to a regular theater (which is rare), at the start of a trailer I see "This preview has been modified for all ages" (or something like that), but at the drafthouse I don't always see that. Still, I noticed they have the movie listed as PG13 and to me that's false advertising if they don't include the complete line in the movie. I will definitely say something to them.

Just got back from seeing LFODH.. it was really good!!

I actually was quite impressed with the stunts, digital effects and the photography...

Not bad for an action movie... with Bruce Willis... lol

Bill V,

I'm not saying that there aren't scenes in trailers that are never in movies...I know that happens all the time and have seen that.

I have never seen a "red background" and warning preceeding a trailer that indicated the trailer was of a certain rating other than for "general audiences". I know I haven't seen that at a theater anyway, nor a drive in.

Maybe on DVD, especially if it's a direct to dvd...but again, I haven't seen that either. Again, not saying these don't exist...just saying I haven't seen them.

Oh, btw, I would be PISSED if I saw the "Yippie-Kay-Hay" scene from the movie in a trailer...let's just say you know the line is coming, just not sure when or where...and knowing it was coming in that scene while watching it would have sucked.

TJR

Stone, thanks for chiming in. The number of R rated movies I have seen in the theater can probably be counted on my fingers. I have tons in my DVD collection, but with kids ranging 6 to 14, we don't get out to see R rated movies, and when my wife and I go out alone its almost always chick flicks (okay, call for my "man card").

Also, I can't see it at work (computers lock out video feed), but the description I found indicates that this link is to a "red band" trailer for the movie "Clerks 2". Let me know if it actually has the red splash screen at the start. If you do a search for "red band" trailer, you'll likely find several more--"Seed of Chucky", "SuperBad", "Eros", "Exorcist: The Beginning", etc. Even the recent highly-popular "Knocked Up" seems to have a red band trailer available, if you go to www.knockedupmovie.com/18plus . It sounds like a lot of theater chains won't show them anymore, even at R-rated movies--but some are still made for internet marketing purposes.
