That picture of El Capitan or Half Dome was of both. Half dome was the peak in the far distant, (barely visible in the haze) and El Capitan was to the left of it in the picture.

A shame you weren't doing the trip late next week. I am going up to Pebble Beach on Tuesday and could have met you when you passed by in the Monterey area.

Nice trip report and pics. In pcic 25 the one of your trip details there on the screen I'm curious about the "stopped time" of 6+ hours, please tell me you didn't spend that much time stopped in traffic although I'm guess maybe you did during our southern CA trip this past spring I spend a good 2 out of 4 hrs pretty much stopped one evening on a highway just outside San Diego.

You have to remember I was on a motorcycle.. and lane splitting is legal in Cali. I left that part out of my write up because my mom reads my site, and she always worries.. if she knew I was lane splitting it would be nothing but an earfull. I always tell her I'm not like all the stories she hears from her idiot co-workers that ride..

I would say yes. Half Dome is awful distant and hazy but it sure looks like I remember it. From the picture's perspective, the cliff to the left in the picture has to be El Capitan. They are not THAT close together actually. El Capitan is about midway up the Valley while Half Dome is at the extreme east end.

I found a photo on the web with the same perspective but was unable to capture. Here are separate photos,
