I found the article below interesting and hope you do too.

Does anyone know if the type of stuff described in this article goes on in the U.S. Toyota factories?

TJR,

Being a Quality Technician for General Motors here at the Spring Hill/Saturn Plant,

I can say from experience that it does go on in some G.M. factories! We have a highly

trained Quality Group that must attend so many hours of training and technical

classes to be certified in the Quality Inspection Group. We also have "Optronic

Robots", L.M.I. (Linear Measurement Indicator) guages that are Computer-Interfaced,

and a vast array of other technical support options that are at our disposal to make

accurate measurements and provide diagnostic capibilities to our inspectors on the

floor.

Last year. I co-hosted a group of interns from a Technical/Quality training class

from Japan for Toyota and Nissan Employees who came to our plant to see how our

quality system worked. They were very impressed, and our security personnel actually

had to escort the group from Nissan out, after confiscating the hidden cell phones and

PDA-type devices ( that they were warned, in the first place, that they were NOT to have!)

But apparrently, our security personnel were a little slow to discover this, as, six months

after their visit, several Nissan plants had incorporated into their quality system, the

exact methods and protocols that we had in place in Spring Hill!

And while we are on the subject, I am Union and Proud of it, but in today's world,

anyone who plans on surviving has to be honest, not only with themselves, but with

others. There are many Management personnel that need to be fired for their disregard

of professionalism, and their are some Unoin Members who need the same fate. I do the

best job that I can, with the rescources given to me by G.M., every day that I walk into

that plant. I am not passing blame, I'm just trying to be honest.

Thanks for the input, Tracnblack.

I have nothing but respect for the hard working men and women who build cars in this country. It's tough work and they have done a lot to turn around the industry and overcome some of the bad habits created during Detroits heyday. And management has helped in that regard too, I suspect.

TJR,

Thanks for your honest, unbiased reply to my reply!

Again, we are all human, be it Management or Union (in this scenario).

There is blame and culpability on both sides. Everyone needs to accept and

embrace their responsibilities, and do their part to make this world (or at least,

their place of employment) a better one to live and work in.

As my mother used to say, "If everyone would sweep their own doorstep,

the world would be a cleaner place".

A better truth has never been spoken...:)
