Anyone know what the MAX number of files I can put in 1 directory. Can't seem to find it on ms site..:eek:

Depends on the version of Windows. Windows 98/Me were based on DOS 6.0's FAT file systems and they were therefore limited; And, if using XP or Win2000 also depends on whether or not you formatted as FAT32 or NTFS.

I suspect you are running WinXP, and if so you can store 65,534 files or folders per folder if formatted as FAT32, or you can store 4,294,967,295 files or folders per folder if formatted as NTFS.



There is some debate as to the accuracy of the source I quoted, so be warned, but either way, it's a crapload.

Thanks Tom,,, I'm running xp pro, nfts, on a 200giger; 2nd drive is another 200 giger; and probably between the 2 drives over a "billion":D jpg/bmp type files. Sooooo many files I want to orginize, and massive amounts of dupicates too.... Thanks again....:rolleyes:
